Just curious, with this cold coming- I was wondering if anyone had installed an aftermarket remote start on a GEN 4? Is it even possible w/the key sensor requirement?
I have. The one I have is setup to work with the original fob by clicking lock/unlock/lock without pauses in-between. It will then run for 15 min and shut off. You need to have your climate settings setup beforehand if you want to come into a warm car, the heater (for example) will not automatically come on. Also, the car will shut off when you open your door ahead of the 15 minute cycle. This is obviously to prevent your car from being stolen.
I'll ask my install guy, but I think that is was a really simple AutoStart brand unit. Nothing fancy needed. Should be $250 or less installed. ** MERGED. USE MULTIQUOTE ** Link does not work....
Sorry. the PriusChat shop has the OEM Remote Engine Starter for sale. I corrected the double paste in the URL. It works now. 2016 Prius Remote Engine Starter - OEM - PriusChat Shop
I will try to do this installation with a different model remote starter sometime before december 15 and will post a diy. I have to get this transmission and engine rebuild done on the supra first and have parts all over my garage and my lift occupied. Machine shop is taking forever for my block.
499.99 total with a lifetime warranty. It was part of my monthly payment since i got 0% interest on the sale of the car.
You may think I'm a cheapskate, but my Gen 4 is a renter. I just go out to the car before I'm ready to leave, start up and shut the door, then go back inside the house. Car protests with a few plaintive beeps and then warms everything up for when I'm ready to drive off. In case you're wondering, I live in a quiet cul de sac and my car's in the driveway, so not an option for all.
I tried to get an after market remote starter installed in my 2017 at Toys for Trucks. The installer said there is none out yet for the 2017 due that the start in the '17 now uses encryption that wasn't used in the 2016 and earlier. He said to check back in a couple of months. Has any one else tried to do this with a '17?
