Hey y'all, We're replacing my hybrid battery for the second time in 6 months. I replaced with a Dorman remanufactured, because of their warranty I'm able to do an even swap. I was talking to a local mechanic and he said the battery burnt out quickly because the computer wasn't reset. Can someone explain how to reset the computer after replacement? Thanks!!
Ahh gotcha. We are in the process of replacing now. We're about to take the battery to oreillys, get the new one, come back and install it. So we don't need to do a computer reset? If so, how do we do it?
There's no computer reset necessary to replace a hybrid battery. But normally disconnecting the 12v battery for a minute resets the car
There is no such thing as a reset. I've replaced a battery before, and it's been running good for years. That mechanic doesn't know what he is talking about.
Unless you had BMS blank without software....and still that will trigger problems with ECU. . so definitely you have bad battery...Dorman are bad on reputation Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
what you have to understand is that rebuilt batteries are hit or miss. you're getting a couple new cells, and a ton of old ones. even though they do their best to balance everything, there's no knowing when another cell will fail. so the rebuild is only as good as the warranty, and that, only if you don't mind the inconvenience of swapping them out. stay away from the mechanic who told you it needed a computer reset. see your post #20 in your first thread.
Also have your 12V battery load tested at the same time, it can also cause issues since they (HV and Aux batteries) work together via the inverter. You may also want to check out getting a mini VCI setup and post your results so we can verify for you what is actually going on with your HV battery.
