I've had my prime for almost a week(and love it). Today I checked my tire pressure and was surprised that all tires were at 54 psi... right from the dealer. Is this safe?

They're supposed to drop pressures to spec during pre delivery inspection . Let dealership know?

I would not go any higher than 7PSI over the door-jam number.

I travel for work a couple of times a month and in the various rental cars that I drive I notice that individual tire pressure display is getting more common. For example the Altima that I drove last week had it. Surprising that it is not included in Gen 4 and Prime, considering the wealth of other safety features included. Realize this has been brought up before, but it just seems a somewhat glaring omission. I'm not sure how accurate these types of displays are, but you could of course still check with a regular gauge, which you would do anyway when filling the tires, the main purpose of the display is to be able to immediately notice any movement instead of waiting until the next time you check your tire pressures.

So glaring I wrote directly to Toyota that I think it's a safety issue on a car with no spare. And got a reply.

Since we got our P.Prime, I’ve settled in … about the same: ~5PSI over. No significant change in grip on turns, braking, or acceleration compared to the door-jam numbers.

With Bridgestone Ecopia Pluses (came with our P.Prime and coincidentally also what we have on our 2009), I’ve found that the improvement in rolling resistance by over-inflation is not as big as with many other tire types. I’m only guessing, but perhaps the sidewalls are stiffer than average, so they don’t dissipate as much energy flexing. That being the case, I might drop it down just a tad to 40PSI all around.

That they had recorded my suggestion in their database. And probably then sent it into the sun.
