Anyone had luck removing their cover? I'm trying to replace my bulbs to LED and I can't figure out how to remove the cover without scratching anything. Seems almost impossible...
I just used a small flathead between the 2 plastic pieces (left bottom corner) and it popped right out
I found that taking down the rear part of the central gray piece made it easy to remove the clear lens piece around it. Used the blunt nail file tool of a Swiss Army knife to get between the two pieces and release the tabs.
Least likely to break anything (lots of small delicate tabs) if you just use a door panel removal tool and take the whole module down. See the video. Be aware that it doesn't come off quite that easy the first time - they have had that one off a few times.
Let me add this-- I left my 2010 Prius at the airport for 4 days and accidentally left the inside light on. Luckily I had changed the inside lights to LED--- and the 12v battery was not dead when I returned and had enough power to engage the traction battery. I drove home normally Yep, I should have paid attention and shut the inside light off! That said, changing the inside lights to LED will be one of my first projects with my Prime... just in case.
Good point, cjp767. I can't believe Toyota hasn't migrated to LEDs for all internal lighting for Gen 4. Perhaps the refresh or Gen 5 will get there?
For install instructions, you can search YouTube, “Toyota Prius LED Interior How To Install - 4th Gen 2016+” and pick up a set of LEDs from PrecisionLED or T-10 194 or 168 LEDs from Amazon
I'm having difficulty removing the map light assembly so going to order some auto trim removal tools (plastic) to see if that helps. Seems to be in there pretty good after trying to wedge it out with other random objects around the house... no dice I've already replaced the other interior lights excepted the dome light which requires a different type of bulb than the other ones.
