I'm looking to mod some interior trim pieces. Has anyone had any luck with removing the silver trim pieces on the steering wheel? I was fiddling around with them yesterday, and I think they are screwed onto the two bottom steering wheel spokes (the 5 and 7 position if referencing a clock). I don't want to start prying in fears that I'll break off clips... so looking for any help possible. Thanks! -Calvin
Bump, I'm looking for the same info. I want to take the trim off so I can cover it with some 3M DI-NOC CF.
Answering my own question. The shop manual calls for removing the center pad by probing around and releasing some catches to get access to the screws that hold the silver pieces in place, then popping a catch loose for each silver piece. I think I will skip it.
I was also interested on how those pieces came off for a different reason: I wondered how tough it would be to put brighter LEDs in the mode and trip/disp controls. The OEM lights are wimpy at best
I would like to do the same... I could barely see the illumination sometimes without having a long stare.
You have to pull the airbag off and then there are a few screws holding the trim pieces on. You don't need to remove the steering wheel though.
He's referring to the bluetooth, radar and LKA buttons (among others) in the silver trim. Given that you have a Prius II, your silver trim has no buttons.
Hi there, Is there any update on this post? Anyone managed to pop off the silver trim on the steering wheel??
I recall seeing somewhere on a jdm website and yes you do have to remove the steering wheel and remove the airbag or at least thats what it looked like. I will try to see if I can find that site and post the link. I was thinking the same thing but to change out the led lights behind the controls from green to bright white to match my other buttons. I tried to pull them off thinking it just pops out but no such luck.
