CPO 2013 Prius Two - price advice

    Hi all,

    I'm currently in the market for a Prius. Going through some of the numbers, I'm currently considering the following 2 cars:

    CPO 2013 Prius II, 26,750 miles, $14,200. Vehicle was a personal lease. From the carfax it looks like it went through service every 5000 miles at the Toyota Dealership that is selling the car. List was $14,990 but I talked them to $14,200 sight unseen.

    Other option is a new 2017 Prius Two quoted at $22,994, haven't tried to talk price down yet.

    Just wanted to see if I can get some thoughts between the value/cost of each?

    seems like a decent price, as far as comparison, it's night and day. have you tested both vehicles and looked at all the features?
    personally, i would buy a gen 4, if i could afford it, but the gen 3 is a great car.

    Thanks, bisco. I haven't test drove the Gen 3 yet, although I've driven around in one of my friends'. I've recently moved to Minnesota and have been driving a lot more miles lately, I'd like to get a 2017 but also thinking I might get good value going for a used car for the next couple years. Might try to see if I can talk the CPO one down a little more. I do like the idea of 100k powertrain warranty that comes with it...

    I love math.

    All else being equal, if you buy the new Prius, after 5 years, you will have a 2017 Prius worth $14k. (Or $13k private seller) You would've spent $9000-$10000

    If you get the CPO, you would have a 10 year old Prius worth about $6000 - $7000 based on used prices for a 2007 Prius. You would've spent $7000 - $8000 over the same 5 years.

    The 2013 is overpriced IMO. For -~$2000 extra I'd get the 2017 or find a 2013 in the $12k range.

    Thanks, I appreciate the feedback! Was totally ready to pull the trigger on a new 2017 Prius Two, coming in at about $22,400 before taxes, title, etc. Just saw a 2015 CPO at a reputable dealership listed at $14,400 with 24,600 miles on it, tempted to see what kind of price I can get on that if they are willing to negotiate.

    There you go. A 2015 at that price makes the math more acceptable.

    Turns out it was too good to be true. It was listed at $14,400 on the toyotacertified.com inventory page but listed at $17,500 on the actual dealer website. Just trying to get the price down on the 2017 Prius Two now

    Don't be discouraged. I just bought an SUV for $16300 advertised at $17900. It was on the lot over 60 days so they apparently were in the mood to deal.

    The first number was likely what the dealer paid for the car. The auction prices are trending around 14k. The newer one would probably be around 18k at dealer auction.
