World leaders duped by manipulated global warming data | Daily Mail Online "The Mail on Sunday can reveal a landmark paper exaggerated global warming It was rushed through and timed to influence the Paris agreement on climate change America’s National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration broke its own rules The report claimed the pause in global warming never existed, but it was based on misleading, ‘unverified’ data" "Then came the final bombshell. Dr Bates said: ‘I learned that the computer used to process the software had suffered a complete failure.’The reason for the failure is unknown, but it means the Pausebuster paper can never be replicated or verified by other scientists."
One of the reasons why I use the imprecise terms like "math trick" is as bait for our less sophisticated readers. It re-enforces their fantasies I won't get bogged down with trying to educating the willfully ignorant. Bates made a poor choice and now he has to 'claw it back' from those who choose to believe something else by taking things out of context. It almost suggests sharing some conversations can lead to more time and bother than warranted. But I realize it is not the original conversation as much as the willfully ignorant living in a fantasy land of their own making. Bob Wilson
Yes some parties have been duped here. See if you can figure out whom: News from The Associated Press
So, is Daily Mail hard-hitting journalism or just, well, opinions seem to vary Wikipedia bans Daily Mail as 'unreliable' source | Technology | The Guardian
If you can stand to read more about this squirrel: How a culture clash at NOAA led to a flap over a high-profile warming pause study | Science | AAAS Or, if you want to participate in archiving older observations made at sea: Old Weather Or, if you want to see about another group assembling data from 15,000 stations: International Surface Temperature Initiative Many non-squirrely things are vying for your attention.
Well that was weird: . . . John Bates, who retired from NOAA this past November, made the claims in a post on the prominent blog of Judith Curry, a climate researcher who recently retired from the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta . . . Bob Wilson
Weird how? Dr. Curry's retirement? (not secret) John Bates' guest-post there did not include any of his 'softening' we've read elsewhere.
Guess I've been more interested in the data than personalities. Polar ice remains interesting. Talking about cold air, looks like the USA NorthEast is getting a big dose with moisture ... blizzard conditions. In Dixie, we're in the middle of a cold air, high pressure center. In a day or so, it'll be warm again but I think some it is pushing moisture to the NorthEast. Bob Wilson
