12 volt battery

    i don't think so. but put a volt meter on it before spending a couple hundred bucks.

    That is normal voltage, however with the car "on", the inverter is keeping the 12v system alive.

    Honey2017, the 14.2v means that the system that charges the battery is working. As bisco said, test the battery with a volt meter. At 8 to 9 years the original battery is likely going to be at the end of its useful life.

    here's my procedure for testing the 12v.

    1) pop the hood in the evening when done with the car.
    2) in the morning, without opening any doors, open the hood and put a meter on the jump point inside the fuse box.
    3) 12.4 volts or better is satisfactory.

    my daughter's '08 12v was replaced last year. it was still working, but it died from a light left on at the airport, and i don't trust them after that.

    It that just after you have turned the car off? I think it is, if so, repeat this test again after the car has sat without use for 2 hours or more.
    That is a high range, particularly the 14.7 V. That means that the car thinks the battery is totally flat and is going heck for leather trying to get it charged up.

    So far, these readings are inconclusive.

    PS also what you need is a load test which you can do after the car off test by putting the car in IG-ON (two presses of the power button with your foot OFF the brake), get to Vehicle Signal Check Mode and switching the headlights on. See what voltage the battery settles at (remains stable for up to 5 min). If the voltage keeps dropping, then your battery is needing replaced. Stop this test if the voltage drops below 10.5 V.

    Also the cars been sitting for almost 3 weeks without being driven dont know if that would make any difference iam a newbie to hybrid

    Okay so i did the test. Without the lights on i got 12.5 an when i turned on the headlight i got 11.9 i need a new 12v huh

    Not necessarily, how long did you run the test with the lights on and and did it hold the voltage at 11.9 V or was it continuing to drop?

    About 5 mins the 11.9 stayed once i tunrned my lights off it went to 12.5

    I reckon you've got a few more years in that battery. Just make sure you charge it from time to time (once a month) if you don't drive it regularly. I would be surprised if this was the original battery, so no need to worry about it for now.

    Were you just testing it because the car was new to you, or does it have some problem that made you look at the 12 V battery?

    No no problems. I just was testing because iam a newbie an want to get use to all the little tricks you can do to check things. I had a diagnostic done an theres no codes or anything. Iam going to be driving to Tennessee from florida so wanted to make sure iam not going to die on the highway.
