Ok so there are voice commands for the Nav unit. Also you can set things before you start driving. So if I am traveling on the highway and want a rest stop or gas station or the next exit with food can I find them? Can I use voice? Do I have to stop to find a stop on 2006 models? Thanks
"Show Restaurants" I think there is a "Show Gas Stations" and/or "Show Rest Stops" Something like that. Check the manual for the specifics.
I don't have the Prius yet so not manual either. My biggest question, before ordering, is the Nav is worthy? Thanks
Regarding your questions... The Nav is fantastic, but the voice recognition is spotty in '06 for several of us. To answer your specific question about freeway and gas stations, the Toyota nav system is really cool in this regard. As you are driving down the freeway, it automatically displays a list of the next 3 or so exits, with icons above each exit showing what amenities are there, including gas stations and restaurants. For national chains (like "Burger King", "Arbys", etc.) the company logo is shown as well, making it easy to tell what restaurants are at the exit. For independent restaurants, if the type is known "Italian", "Chinese", you'll see a national flag. - Bob R.
But be aware that if it's said wrong (at least according to the NAV system) you may get the wrong icon. For example I say, "Hungry Thai" and I get "Showing banks." It's probably better for the 2006, but it's amusing what does come up.
I think it's when the map is in the split/screen mode. It's nice at night and you're driving in an unfamiliar area, and you can sort of prepare yourself for your exit if you see it coming up on the screen before the voice prompts you to it. And I think it will only show you the icons of what's at each upcoming exit if you asked it to show you those particular icons ("show gas stations", "show restaurants", etc). Otherwise it just says the exit name/number and the distance you are from it.
It's always done it automatically but not in my local urban freeway area... once you are out on the "open road", it splits to this screen automatically. I didn't learn about it until I took my first out-of-town trip. It is one of the map views you can select using the touchscreen as well. You can also get it to come up by saying "freeway guidance", but don't quote me on that. - Bob R.
Good replys, thank you. It appears there is a difference of opinion on what models of nav do what. Anyway has anyone been able to go down the highway, out of your local area, and find a rest stop as you are driving. It appears, in some cases, you can find exits and gas and food. What about bathrooms as you are going down the highway? Thanks
Hello - plenty of good questions. Try this thread started by Marie: http://priuschat.com/index.php?s=&showtopi...ndpost&p=267582 She shows many of the commands. If you are in NAV (map) mode, you can have the display show many different icons, including gas stations. You can do it while driving. No command for "bathroom" or water closet" as far as I can tell. You can probably find a bathroom at the nearest gas station, but they might want you to buy gas.
