Ok here is the new design progress, I posted the last box in the wrong thread. I have been running a single JL Audio 8W1 in a ported enclosure in my Prius C for a couple years now without any loss of cargo space or the spare tire. I wanted to make a better less expensive design and also add the option of a second sub on the other side of the spare tire.
That looks amazing, nice job! Any chance you're interested in selling these, or making the plans available for others to make? I'm not even putting a sub in the car, just looking to utilize all the wasted space in the trunk. iPhone ?
Looks good, but I had a few questions. How many cubic feet is the box? Any reason why you didn't use fiberglass? Is that rectangular hole on top the port?
Yes I am interested in selling these. I have a couple small changes to make before it's ready. PM and we can figure something out.
Thank you! I would definitely make one for a Gen 2, I haven't seen the rear compartment, but I'm assuming it's similar or the same as the Gen1?
The air space is .54 cubic feet. This box is designed specifically for the JL Audio 8w1. I don't think any other non-shallow 8" sub will work in this box. The 8w1 is a full size woofer but designed to be shallower than most other full size woofers, which makes it perfect for this application. The port is not in the box yet, I'll post more pics soon, it will be a 2"x10" round port. And yes, a couple reasons I didn't use fiberglass. I like the sounds of wood boxes more, and it's easier to construct on a small scale, especially since I have a CNC to cut the pieces for me.
Gen2 is a hatchback very similar to the the Gen3. http://autoguide.com.vsassets.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/2G-Prius.jpg
Oh ok, I thought you meant Gen 2 Prius C. Yes I'm sure I could make something for that vehicle but I would need a Gen2 in my shop for a couple days. Let me see if I can find some more pics of the rear compartment.
