Just purchased a used 2012 Prius C 2 and loving it so far. Had my first 60+MPG trip and became hooked on maximizing fuel economy. Would like to ask for any tips or tricks to help maintain high MPG. Thank you.
If you are getting 60+ MPG already, then you are well on your way to driving efficiently. As suggested, you can find several helpful videos on You Tube. A few general suggestions: 1. Keep your speed on the highway to 72 mph or less. 2. Don't tailgate. In addition to being dangerous, its a gas waster. 2. Always take advantage of the cars momentum. 3. Start from a stop slower and more gradual than you might have previously. 4. Anticipate stops by coasting to them instead of waiting until the last second to hit the brakes (yes, we all used to do it). 5. Drop back a mph or 2 when going up hills, and take full advantage of the down hill sides by coasting to the highest speed you are comfortable with. Trying to maintain a steady speed on hills is not efficient for gas mileage. I am very jealous of your 31,000 miles. I just topped 90,000 on my 2012.

The operative word there is "or less". Air resistance increases with the square of the speed, so you're using up 71% more energy to plow through the air at 72mph than you do at 55mph. There are other factors involved, but that kind of difference can decrease your fuel economy from, say, 55mpg to the low 30's.

Conditions and results will vary of course. I picked 72 because that seems to be the 50 mpg breaking point for me on my commute of relatively flat highways with only a few small hills. Above that speed, my mileage drops into the 40s.

My MPG for this time of year is 40....I only drive two miles each way to work so it is normal from what I have read from other short commute drivers. I now have 32,000 on my car, no problems at all.
