Thanks so much for posting your story about this display. Mine just went to a black screen when I started the car in the AM a few days ago. The previous day is was functioning well. Mine is a 2009 Prius with Navigation, Bluetooth, etc. just like yours. Nothing I did with the the display (prior to that morning) should have provoked an electronic failure. The fuses are fine (the display unit shares a 7.5 Amp fuse with the power windows, etc.) The only thing not working is the display panel itself. Your successful approach is one that I may need to follow. If I get fed up and decide to fix it soon, I may write again to ask about the site you used to network to the salvage yards. Again, thanks for sharing the story, I felt better when I knew that I wasn't the "only victim"! Regards

    My MDF died last month.
    Toyota asked me 1900€ !!
I went online and found this video on how to replace the MFD:

Im thinking if i should buy the entire piece ( 04 05 06 07 08 09 Toyota Prius Navigation Display Repair Service MFD | eBay ) or just the LCD + digitaliser ( http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-TOYOTA-PRIUS-HYBRID-NAVIGATION-CLIMATE-TOUCH-SCREEN-LCD-2006-2007-2008-2009-/172120313709?hash=item28132b8f6d:g:M9AAAOSwFMZWsYXZ&vxp=mtr ). Has anyone replaced the screen without replacing the whole part?

The entire piece is on ebay but it is the USA version, the european version has a different button.

Following this MFD thread. I just returned from dealer where they ran diagnostic on my 2008 Prius MFD, which had quit working. Their replacement (parts & labor) came to is $1,897.85, in addition to the $137.00 I paid for them to run the diagnostic. I'm reading these replies to get ideas on how I can get around this. I'm really disappointed, and have learned to find out if my next car will be able to run Climate and Audio if the screen goes out. My husband's new Subaru and my daughter's new car both have touchscreens, but vitals such as climate (!!!) and audio don't rely on the screen. Bad design.

I just returned from the Toyota dealership who ran the diagnostic on my dead MFD. Their replacement (Parts & Labor) is $1,897.85, plus the $137.00 diagnostic charge. I'm really disappointed in this design and it will definitely keep me from buying another Prius or other vehicle where the climate and audio are dependent on the touchscreen. My husband and daughter both have new cars with screens, but also have manual for audio and climate. I hadn't even considered this when I bought the Prius in '07 (it's a 2008 model).
I'm not sure what I'll do, but the fact is, you've got to have ability to control climate.

Used units can be found on eBay for $200-$400. Installation is a breeze(about 20 minutes). All you need is a philips screw driver and a 10mm socket. Watch Youtube video.

Your climate and audio can be controlled with the steering wheel controls.

Here is a list of the different versions, find yours and search eBay
