Diane, Ken here. I had #110 of the manufactured 2012 PIPs. I just get a Prime. How do I know what number it is? Is the number part of the VIN or the VSL?
[QUOTE="DianneWhitmire, [/QUOTE] Hi Dianne, long time no hear. I traded my 2012 PIP for a Prime. How do we tell the manufacture order? My PIP was the 110th one built and I was wondering about how many Primes were built before mine.
Maybe the Prius Team would be in a better position to answer this since I think it's probably more of a Toyota question than something that a dealer would have access to. Or maybe contact the dealer that you purchased your Prime from, maybe they will be willing to research it for you.
First of all I will state that I don't know or have ever communicated with Dianne. I probably live 200 miles away from Carson. The dealer has the choice to discount or not as the buyer has the choice to buy or not it's that simple. I would like to say that it is not always about getting a few hundred dollars knocked off the sticker. There are other things to consider. I originally wanted a Premium Blizzard Pearl/Moonstone which were virtually not really available to me when I started looking so I opened myself up to getting the Advanced because at least there were 3 or 4 on lots within 500 miles of me. My dealer who is 40 miles away (Fresno) twice started the dealer trade on an Advanced only to have the deal backed out on by the other dealers later in the days they were initiated on. My dealer was persistent and somehow located a Premium in the right color combo about 225 miles away and was able to get the dealer trade accepted so he saved me $4500 by not having to buy an Advanced. I am guessing that it cost him $200 or $300 to send someone to drive one up and mine back. Not to mention that my dealer was generous on my trade in paying within $600 of KBB private party value. I live in San Joaquin Valley and there is an extra $2000 rebate for the Prime that is 1st come 1st serve until depleted so time was of the essence. I did not want to spend too much time trying to save $500 of the MSRP and potentially losing the $2000 SJV rebate. So I paid MSRP gladly. I got the exact vehicle that I wanted and am getting all of the rebates ($1000 Toyota, $4502 Federal, $2000 SJV, $1500 CVRP, $500 PGE) and I am a happy camper. It's not always about getting a discount. Just my opinion.
I really have no way to tell. I know Toyota didn't start the model runs off with 00000 at the end, and no idea how many stayed in Japan or went to east coast first. No way for me to know.
