Purchased a Gen 3 Prius from a dealer last week -- he purchased it at auction, so no trace back to original owner. I found a DEI warning sticker on the inside hood, indicating that the car start at any time. I found a SPST toggle switch tucked under the dash. I found an antenna hanging down in the dot matrix area of the windshield. From searching the Internet, I am concluding this is remote start system. I tried pressing the LOCK remote button three times, in the hopes that it was that type of system. Nothing. Anything else to be tried via the factory remote? Now for the really hard part..... Is there any way of determining which manufacturer? If so, how do I go about obtaining the remote trigger device? Thanks!
Looks like a aftermarket unit. Get under the drivers side dash and locate the control unit. should be a small box with 1/2 dozen wires going to it. The name should be on it. Or, stop by an installer (dealer) they may be able to identify it by the sticker or the antenna.
By your description, probably is a Viper remote starter. The switch you found is a Valet switch. Viper's (DEI manufacturer) has it's own remote ctrl or depending how advance the R.S. system is, will use a phone application to do the job
Aftermarket remote start come with own wireless remote...that do all what your factory remote did and plus other functions related to their series of device installed Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
Not necessarily. Some utilize the factory remote by simply long-pressing or double or triple pressing one of the factory buttons. Also, how do you know it's not simply an anti-theft alarm system? DEI makes Viper, Python, Clifford, etc, alarms. Is there an alarm siren anywhere?
