Question for those who have purchased the Prime in California and applied for the rebate - Is license plate and registration required before applying for the rebate? Been 3 weeks now I and still have not received plates and would like to start the rebate process. Thanks!
I assume it is a credit and not a rebate. If it works like the federal credit, you get the credit when you file your income taxes. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
I have received my plate number from my dealer after a week receiving my car and I submitted my application in he following day. It is approved but not receiving anything yet. iPhone ?
Trying to figure out if License plate is required before I start the application process, anyone knows? Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
You can submit the temporary registration that's affixed to your windshield. That's what I did. My application was approved 30 days after I submitted. After approval, it says it can take up to 90 days to receive the check and that they'll email me when the check is sent. Haven't received an email yet.
Hope everyone applying is aware that the vehicle must be continually owned by the applicant for a period of 30 months or potentially the rebate amount must be paid in full. Hate to see anyone surprised by this later. Retain ownership of the vehicle for a minimum of 30 consecutive months immediately after the vehicle purchase or lease date. The original lease must be a minimum lease term of 30 months. Only rental and car share vehicles are eligible for a reduced ownership provision if retained in California for a minimum of twelve consecutive months but less than 30 consecutive months. Rebate recipients who do not retain the eligible vehicle for the full 30-month ownership or lease period will be required to reimburse ARB all or part of the original rebate amount. Vehicle purchaser or lessee is required to notify the Administrator to arrange for early termination of vehicle ownership in advance of intent to sell or terminate a lease prior to the required 30-month ownership period. ARB will periodically check vehicle identification numbers with vehicle registrations to ensure that CVRP applicants meet this requirement. If an applicant violates this requirement, ARB or its designee reserves the right to recoup CVRP funds from the original vehicle purchaser identified on the rebate application form and may pursue other remedies available under the law. Register the new vehicle with the DMV for a minimum of 30 consecutive months from the original purchase or lease date for use in California.
Thank you for reminding us of this. I read this and acknowledge my understanding of the terms of rebate a few years ago when I applied for it with Prius Plugin. I forgot about it when I replaced our Prius Plugin with a Prime in Nov 2016. I was lucky that the purchase date of the Prime was just a few days after the 30-month line.
For what it's worth, I recently received an email from UC Davis, who is conducting a study about EV (and autonomous) vehicles, sent to people who have received the CA Clean Air Rebate. Just to give you a heads up, if you received the rebate, they may contact you to find out if you want to complete the voluntary questionnaire (takes about 20-30mins). Also had a question about this CA Clean Vehicle Rebate. I already got mine rebate, so this is just curiosity, but I see they ran out of funds a few months back, and for the rest of 2017, only low-income folks will qualify for the rebate. The webpage does say people not low-income will be placed on a rebate waitlist, but what's not clear is if the waitlisted people who bought or filed after June 2017 will have priority if new funding is given in 2018, or if it's a waitlist just in case more funding is given for the year 2017...
I had read they had approved the funding already. Few days ago? As I understand it waitlist comes first. GF just got the Chevy Bolt, seems they get more. Clean vehicle rebate funding reinstated - The San Diego Union-Tribune
That article is dated 9/23/2016 I think this is the latest status update straight from CARB. What does the rebate waitlist mean to me? | Clean Vehicle Rebate Project
