    Hi there,

My Prius has been running great up until now. I started the engine and all the lights on the dashboard and in the car flashed like strobes for about 10 seconds, the engine fluttered and then it shut off. I've tried restarting it a few times and the problem persists. I figured I would start here, any help or suggestions is appreciated.

    Thanks!

Please provide more information: year of car, miles on odometer, original traction battery?, original 12v auxiliary battery?

It's a 2009 with 84k miles with the original batteries.

Sounds like your 12 volt battery needs to be replaced.

I'd tend to agree with this. Some stores that sell batteries will perform a battery check, including a load test, free of charge.

There's a battery in the back on the right hand side under the cover how much voltage is on the battery if it's less than 11.75v bad battery

Seven year old 12v battery...change it. Forget the tests. It will just die at a very inconvenient time and place.

Have just been going thru this as well. The 12v in the rear of the car was the original (2006). Got a new one at a battery shop. It is a bit hinky to install, but there are some good tutorials on YouTube. Or pay $15 to have the battery store guy install it. DON'T go to the dealer. They will so totally soak you.

A dead 12v battery would leave the car dark. No SKS. No interior lights. On the third attempt to start I was able to get the car to boot up and drove to the dealer.

What is the in service date? The warranty may not have expired.

This is great feedback, thanks everyone. I will check the voltage on battery today and report back.
