Why did you buy your Prime?

After reading some other threads, I've noticed that the Prime has attracted many more folks than older models/generations have. I think that in earlier Prius models, the car was marketed towards folks simply looking to maximize their fuel economy. With the Prime though, there are so many reasons why one might buy it (kudos to Toyota), aside from the mileage. I'm curious to know why others purchased the Prime and if they were satisfied with it.

As for myself, I wanted a car that was eligible for a tax credit (don't hate the player, hate the game). I have always been a car guy, and the looks of older Prius models did not appeal to me. This car however, did appeal to me. I find the front end to look similar to the new Acura NSX. I wanted a car manufactured by a reliable company (sorry Chevy, this is where the Volt was out of the picture). I also wanted the flexibility of being able to travel over 400 miles without stopping (my wife and I live apart due to careers but travel to see each other on weekends). The Tesla Model S did not have this range (or a convenient-for-me Supercharger station yet) so this was out of the picture. The Tesla Model 3 I could not wait for either. The BMW i8 was out of my price range. The BMW i3 ReX cost more than the Prime and wasn't as attractively-styled, which narrowed my decision down to the Prime.

Since this car seems to be marketable to many more people than those just looking to maximize fuel economy, I'm curious to know why others chose this car. No reason is right or wrong, I think we can all share an appreciation for the car and its marketability.

Our home is on solar power. We wanted a car that we could charge off solar too.

I bought my Prius Prime Advanced because of multiple reasons. One is I am sold on Prius since I bought my first one which was a 2005 Prius. I bought it not really to save the earth, but to save money on gas. Then plugins came along. Wanted to get one but never had an opertunity in my area since they were only sold in selective areas. I wasn't too impressed with the limitations of driving in EV mode only. Then the Prime came along. More sustainable electric range with even more gas savings. I also love the sort of sporty look, which I have heard compliments from friends saying that it is a great looking car, of course, for a Prius. I am also in love with all the technology it has like the app to set the climate control before you get to the car, the radar cruise control. I am into high tech gadgets and it is up my alley. I am just giggling on how I am still on my first tank of gas of almost 2 months and 1400 miles without seeing a gas station. It is way beyond what I could do with my 2005 Prius. Of course, I am sold on Toyota's reliability and longevity. The only thing I would want that I can have is either a sunroof or a solar roof for recharging the hybrid battery. Other than that, no complaints!!

    1) Push button start - tired of fumbling with my keys every time I get in and out of the car, which is a LOT.
    2) 3 door SKS. Being able to lock the car without fumbling with the keys is a big plus.
    3) Possibility of greater MPG than my Prius C, based on what I have seen from Gen4 liftbacks.
    4) Priced competitively, particularly with tax credit.
    5) Heated steering wheel.
    6) Radar cruise control.

Heated steering wheel - you bought the Advanced. I'm jealous. It was 10 degrees this morning and I wish I had bought the Advanced over the Premium, my only regret. Congrats to your new Prime and I'm glad you went for the Advanced, I wish I would have.

Off lease, the BMW i3-REx is price-performance competitive. Regardless, sold our 2010 to make space for our Prime with its superior to the 2010, safety features.

The BMW will remain our daily driver although it may alternate, say 'long-lunch' Fridays.

A combination of the best efficiency, value, tech, styling and resale on the market. I too was a 2nd/ 3rd Gen owner and initially felt the 4 Gen styling was rushed and unrefined.
The Advanced Tech Prime compelled me to come off of the sidelines. Were it not for the prime, I most likely would be in a Chrysler Pacifica hybrid- a very distant second alternative.

All in all loving the prime with zero range anxiety!

That is the best looking Prime I've seen...is that 20% tint? 18 inch wheels? Looks amazing.

What I really want is a Toyota-reliability Tesla Model 3, and the Prime is the closest thing to that, for now.

Most likely I'll forfeit when my Model 3 reservation comes up, and buy one after the reservation cars are all sold. That, since we will, practically speaking, no longer be in the market.

More realistically though, I want a real EV, plus another car with unequivocally no range issues whatsoever. The Model 3 will be the former and the P.Prime will be the latter, and kinda-sorta both.

Reliable hybrid with reasonable performance, efficient and huge range, < 10 min fueling for long trips.
With the advanced, a step up in the safety equipment. I like things that help keep me alive.

My dream HV, would be a prius with 3x the electric motor and 8x the battery, and perhaps a super capacitor for the peaks.
The prime is a step in that direction (2x battery).

I had (and still have) a 2006 Audi A4 quattro. It got about 32 mpg. I loved it but it is starting to show its age. I thought I could get more by selling it on my own rather than trading it, so its awaiting a thorough cleaning and then it will be put for sale. A year ago I would have never imagined I would be switching to a Prius but it goes to show how the Prime is really expanding the market for such a car. This was my first car I've ever bought new and am very satisfied so far.

You can change your vehicle information to show Prius Prime, that way everyone will know you are one of the lucky ones
