How do we know if the 8kW battery is fully charged? away from our car? an example will be time sharing charger at work place. we want plug in the next car right after fully charged. Without toyota safety connect, is there any after market solution? One possible solution I try to find is this delphi OBD connector. It describes can monitor battery voltage, not sure which battery it support. Probably not the 8kW battery since they don't have Prime 2017, only Prius 2016. copy from vehicle compatibility webpage using Prius 2016 Monitor key vehicle parameters Monitor battery voltage, odometer, and engine run status. Fuel level availability depends on vehicle electronics and may not be available.
That's right. You need toyota safety connect which only comes with Advanced package ($6000 dollar more than plus) for US 2017. If there is any after market solution cost a fraction of $6000 would be great. My impression is that cheapest Leaf and Volt trim support mobile app that display battery percentage. Is this statement accurate?
In my post "we want plug in the next car right after fully charged". That means someone plug in my car at an uncertain time. How do we when to start timer
The car should show you how long it's going to take to charge. I'm not sure if it does this only at the beginning of the charge or the entire way through.
Unlock driver's door with car key it shows charging hours remain on dashboard. Without key anyone can guesstimates by 3 LED indicator thro windshield. Like

Sitting in office Dilbert has no idea when his car was plugged in by his coworker. Most his coworker drive Nissan Leaf, Chevy volt won't understand why Dilbert is hogging charger all day. hour remaining by bowang posted Jan 15, 2017 at 6:09 PM Led indicator by bowang posted Jan 15, 2017 at 6:10 PM
The coworker could send a text message to Dilbert informing him that he has just plugged in Dilbert's car. Dilbert can then walk outside to his car to find out the estimated charge time, then set a reminder alarm on his phone. And so that he doesn't have to rely on the coworker to always remember to send a text message, Dilbert could also inform the Leaf and Volt owners how to interpret the charge status LED in the windshield so they will know when they can use the charger.
While shopping for dash cam, I realize the blackvue cam provides a way to remotely check charging status. You can see 3 LED indicator on dash cam app, either connected to wifi or cloud. Non-advance Prime owner can sit in office and check charging status this way. I am considering put a tablet as mobile hot spot in car to connect the cloud
Update - I just purchased a 2020 Prius Prime Limited to replace our 17 Prime Advanced coming off lease. After purchase, I found out they have removed the Remote Connect features. I relied on being able to check charging status for the occasions I would forget to hit “Charge Now” before plugging in to charge at work. So I have the same request as above - any aftermarket tools that plug into the OBD-II port that can report on the charging status? I found Bouncie and Vyncs that will report driving history and vehicle location like I used to get in the 17 Advanced, but not charging status. Any ideas? Thanks
