I've never tried myself. Perhaps you could ask a friend who lives in Japan to buy on your behalf? I don't think it's possible to buy direct from a Japanese dealer and send to US.

I do get rather envious of what is generally available for JDM customers!

I believe there are users in the Gen 3 mods forum who get JDM parts. It might be worthwhile looking there and PM some of them.

Elevator shoes, 6inch stilettos, or stilts might help.:);)

SOme of our older vans had a top hinged door. A strap (as mentioned earlier) is easy to create by yourself:

I have a similar problem. My mother can't reach the antenna on my CT, so she had to skip a car wash. She does not want to stand on the rear wheel, and luckily the latest version does not have this silly antenna.

You could attach a pull strap. (I agree that you shouldn't have to. )

There is a handle inside the bottom of the hatch on Gen 4. I just checked today.

Seem to remember the Gen 3 had two handles, or was that the Prius+ (v) ?

Yes it does. Took me a year or two to realize they were there though.

I noticed right away that my '13 has two handles since the '05 had and the wife's '07 has only one. I still habitually use the one on the right even though I'm left handed.

By the way, I just used the hanyman's secret weapon (duct tape) to attach a strip of old carpet to the garage door hardware to keep the spoiler from resting (or sliding) against it. I still plan to restrict the hatch travel soon though because I have visions of forgetting and operating the garage door with the hatch open. I saw in the service history of this car that the spoiler has already been replaced once. I wonder why. LOL!

True. But it is too high off the ground for people who are not tall.

My Gen 3 has two handles - at reasonable altitude.

just thinking, a hanging strap might be a pain to try and tuck in while closing.

Yeah, that would be a concern.

Perhaps a bit of Velcro could be attached to the inside of the hatch to secure the end of the strap once the hatch is pulled down and in hand.

If you mount the strap the same distance up the hatch door as its length, it will tuck itself in.
E.g. if you make a 12" long strap, mount it 12" up from the bottom of the hatch door, i.e. 12" forward when the hatch is open.
A little less leverage but just as easy to grab.
