Found another part that needs to be replaced. Can anyone help me id what it is? Is behind the silver canister, is a smaller cylinder the outer cover is in place but the inner parts came out, it looks intact but it has two hoses that come out the other side not in the picture so it seems something is broken and the entire part should be replaced like the pump which has been replaced!

That's the CHRS pump, part number 16290-21010 in my '07. Replacement requires draining and very careful bleeding of the engine coolant system.

What's the chances of two pumps for two systems being taken out by one deer?

The good news with the CHRS is that it is not critical to the cooling of the car, as long as there isn't a coolant leak. It's a small circuit off the main coolant loop that reduces emissions on cold starts.

It’s coolant heat storage pump. It pumps the coolant in and out of the heat storage tank (that silver cylinder) when Prius is powered on and powered off.

Thanks for the part info! Ericbecky that is funny, sorry for the set up for horror slaughter scene and disappointment! So on the coolant am I ok to have run the car for about 50 miles after the accident as long as the engine light has not come on? Pretty much figured the car was toast so drove home and have been messing with it here and there. Put coolant back in just by pooring and not taking proper methods found now after this latest post. Took the entire jug but ran it around the block and saw no level in the tank but its back now after sitting a few days. Basically based on the comment that this is not a critical part can I drive the car some or not at all until this part is fixed and proper drain and refill is completed? Or maybe the part is working, how do I tell?

Sorry, I missed the part where you lost coolant and had to add a gallon. Did you fix a leak? If you drove 50 miles with loss of coolant, you might have done fatal damage to the engine. But you'd have a warning about that on the MFD.

If the CHRS pump were working, you'd hear it humming pretty loudly every time you shut the car off and on every cold start. If it's not working, you should have a check engine light.
