when it gets weak, you might get a fluctuating battery icon, high, low, high, low. not always though. a dealer or someone with tech stream software can check the battery with a load test, but it can't really tell how much life is left.
there isn't a specific one, and it can vary by use and climate. is it hot there? in the southwest u.s. we see some early failures do to parking in the sun all day and 100+ degrees f. typically the battery lasts 150 to 200,000 miles.
you might also see your mpg's drop dramatically, but there can be other reasons for that. or your engine might not shut off much.
There's been precious few hybrid battery failures so far, if any. I think most were high mileage taxis?

I can empathize: our OEM's are 17" (with low-profile Michelin PIlots), but every winter switch over to 15" snow tires. Much more resilient ride with the latter.

In our recent cold snap our nice paving turns into potholed obstacle course. That's all I got though, much better than your conditions I'm sure.
