Yeah I'd like to know too, lol.

I guess to see if I could find something in my pdf of the Repair Manual. I tried, posted something up the page, didn't really read through it.

TechInfo btw, is Toyota's info site. I believe you can get subscription, by the day or longer, to see the latest Repair Manual type stuff, up-to-date and cross-linked. Google:

    Toyota Techinfo

There is free stuff in there as well, Owner's Manuals in pdf format for example, in the "Manuals" tab.

(Ah, see you just posted, found my posted pdf, n'mind first couple of paragraphs.)

Oh! Darwin is a person! Thanks, Darwin! Thanks for the pdf. Thanks for the TechInfo clarification.

Yes and no... it looks to me that in most cases, you replace the whole assembly, which contains the sensors, rather than dismantle the assembly and troubleshoot/repair each individual component. And that is what most pro mechanics should know because it's likely true in most all late model cars.

Mendel Leisk is one of our most prolific posters and he frequently posts PDF's of various repair procedures. As you've seen, he's responded in this thread already. More to the point, I'm pretty certain that I've answered your question and you should know exactly what to repair to get this solved.

Mendel, I am _so_ sorry. Please forgive me. No autocorrect mistake. Just the feeble brain of an old biology teacher who got the wrong biologist's name!

    Thanks, MENDEL!

The wrinkle may be that when you look at the relevant parts from Toyota, here (and a bit of here), there is none that fits your description of a "whole assembly, which contains the sensors". You can get some fuel pump and level gauge bits in the 77020 assembly (or a la carte if you don't want them all), you can get the canister and a couple related bits in the 77740 assembly (which includes the test pump and some sensors), but pretty much everything else in the fuel supply system is a la carte. And Toyota keeps changing their minds on how it all ought to work. Gens 1/2 didn't have a test pump, for example, I think they both just exploited engine vacuum to perform tests while driving. Gen 3 uses a pump and does self tests when you're away. Gens 1 and 2, for example, included special valves (77720H and 77420, mounted on the filler neck but sold a la carte) to control when a filler pump nozzle would shut off. (Maybe the Gen 1/2 bladders made that necessary?)

Now imagine yourself a mechanic in a shop and expected to know not only how a few Prius generations work, but other models and even other makes and all of their Rube Goldberg designs to accomplish the same stuff.

Toyota definitely puts enough information in the manuals to diagnose EVAP and ORVR issues down to the part level, I just don't think I'd ever try to memorize it, and just swapping parts might fool you when it works for one customer and you assume the next one with the same symptoms has the same cause.

Does anyone know if the tank has an integral (built in) rollover valve? I'm trying to confirm.

I don't believe it has anything called that. I believe there is an electrical "circuit breaker sensor" (mounted beside the inverter up front) tasked with killing the fuel pump power in case of an accident. It's not a valve, it's not part of the tank, and I don't think it plays any role in ORVR.

As I've hinted at upthread, the ORVR workings aren't simple, and probably make one of the best examples of a case where the fastest, most reliable way to get specific questions answered will be on techinfo where the specific answers are. I wouldn't even recommend trying to figure it out just from what the Repair Manual says ... under the Library tab, there are course materials for Toyota's technician training courses, some of which cover this stuff, much more helpfully than the Repair Manual on its own.

I was having an issue where I could not fill my tank except by letting it seep into the tank very slowly. I bought a new tank and installed it. Today, I finally got to cutting the old one apart. Guess what? There is a rollover valve at the end of the filler tube. And it looks like mine was bent. I'm guessing that someone tried to siphon gas out of the tank and bent it. I just wanted to share the resolution to my issue. I've been able to fill the tank just fine ever since I replaced it.

Is this part inside the tank or in the Filler Assembly?

Is there a quick fix or workaround to filling fuel?

I have a gen2 2007 and have to fill very slowly. When tank is 6+ gals and fill pump is removed, fuel shoots out of the tank.

Looking for a cheap fix. Thanks.
