Have you ever heard of a rule that the IRS isn't fussy about? ;)

    EV RESIDUALS STINK
If the price of a new electric car is enough to make you gag, check out the used ones. Nissan Leafs with just 30,000 to 40,000 miles are going for as little as $9,000. The Fiat 500e is even cheaper. Used ones are going down the auction lanes for just over $4,000. That translates into a retail price of around $6,500 on used car lots. You know, when EV proponents talk about how cost effective EV’s are, they never talk about depreciation.
    . . .
WHY CHEVY BOLT CAN WIN CAR OF THE YEAR
Next week at the Detroit auto show, we’ll find out which vehicles win the North American Car, Truck and Utility of the Year awards. On Autoline This Week, John and his fellow NACTOY jurors discuss the finalists and in the following clip they discuss why the Chevy Bolt EV could win Car of the Year.

I love irony so I replied:

So the Bolt, the North American Car of the Year, will “. . . they never talk about depreciation?” (your words.)

The EV depreciation example was the Leaf and Fiat 500e but what about the Tesla models? How about the 72-80 BMW i3-REx that has a 150-180 mile gas and electric range?

It is not just single charge and tank range but for cross country trips, how quickly the car can be recharged and/or refueled. An efficient, plug-in hybrid can have exceptionally long legs and a good EV when they arrive.

This month, we’re replacing a highway efficient Prius with a Prius Prime that compliments our BMW i3-REx. If either car is in the shop, the other continues to fully meet both city and cross-country requirements.

Bob, the "in service date" is the date the car is originally sold. Will the IRS verify the date when claiming a credit? Probably not. They have been known to disallow legitimate credits which would require the taxpayer to submit more documentation, like a dated contract. Tripping up on this invites closer scrutiny of the other deductions--probably a game not worth playing.
    ---
At the rate GM & Toyota are selling vehicles that qualify for the EV tax credit the limits will take years to fill. Could Congress repel the credit? Sure. Who is lobbying to repeal the credit and who will be lobbying to keep the credit intact? Other credits expired and were extended. I'd be more concerened about state incentives being repealed.

I think these cars will have to sell on their ownership experience until crude prices justify the expense. Tesla's smoke and mirrors model 3 might put an end to any short term success the Bolt may have

I just service my Gen 4 . I did not see any Prius or Prime . I think people are just buying regular gasoline car. I think we should get away from gas.

Do you use any type of fuel stabilizer? If not, perhaps you should look into using one.

Speaking of auto cannibalism let's talk about the Toyota C-HR Hybrid vs the Toyota Prius C. Two models on the same architecture platform meeting the same needs. Now, Toyota has yet to announce the next C or the coming of the CH-R hybrid to the states but I imagine they both will not exist together.

Clearly I own a C so I'm biased in saying the CH-R couldn't replace the C but since everyone is so crazy over a lifted ride height it could mean the end of the little city Prius. Thoughts?

as with any phev - a dash of fuel stabilizer couldn't hurt. One of my co-workers has one of the newer Ford phev's & after a 1½yrs he's just refueled for the 1st time. Go stabil.

With a sealed tank to keep the more volatile fraction in, and oxygen out, stabilizer shouldn't be needed.

If there is alcohol in your fuel, a cup or less of diesel will work for less cash.
Or install a tap so you can transfer most of it to the Camry.
I thought the C-HR was closer in size to the Prius, than the Prius c. Toyota might axe the c in the US without the C-HR as long as gas prices stay low. It isn't selling well now, and the Yarii and Corolla's are more compelling for those on a budget.

Doesn't the ICE in the PiP start up to run fresh fuel through the lines after a bit? I thought that was on the start up list.

every 124 miles. but it also says to use the fuel in the tank within 6 months. engine warm up only uses a few oz.
i haven't used stabil yet in 4 1/2 years, so i'll look back and see if there were any 6 month stretches.

how long can stabil sit around? i have a big bottle.
