I am not debated what you wrote. I was just talking in general. Thing that Toyota offer with their different model. When I had the Gen 3 the salesman was showing me the Gen 4 with the back up camara. I told him I can get the back up camera on my Gen 3 for 99 Dollar. It just an sample paying less. Maps I used my phone.

it's generally the package required that makes nav expensive. no way to know the cost because it's never a single toyota option.

Your argument about the cost of your smartphone is a bit questionable IMHO.

I don't know about you but I didn't buy mine solely to work as a Satnav. If I had, and if I used my smartphone for Satnav only, your cost argument would apply but most of the disadvantages of the smartphone compared with included Satnavs would disappear.

Since most people want, and purchase, a smartphone anyhow and the Satnav software really is free, and as I said the map updates are not only free but FAR more frequent, I think your argument doesn't really wash, for me at least.

Did you buy your smartphone to use solely for anything?

By your argument, because you use it for many things, it was free.

Hoping this discussion is not going in the more heat than light direction.

But I'm not sure you have understood. My point is that I would have bought it anyway satnav or no.

Do you invite friends round to your house? Does the cost of having them visit, include the cost of buying your house? Or might you have bought the house anyway?

Talk to an accountant about how costs are allocated.

P.S. How much do your map updates cost, and how often are updates made available?

Really? What if there were a $400 phone that costs $40 a month for service and a $350 phone that costs $35 a month for service and the only difference was GPS capability and built in navigation? Are you saying you'd have bought the $350 one?

If my smartphone didn't have satellite navigation, I'd probably have bought a flip phone. In fact, I bought my first smartphone specifically for that feature.

Good example. If you know you aren't going to "entertain", you'll likely buy a smaller house than you would if you plan to have people over often.

Four weeks in and loving this car, but today I went to take advantage of free charging at Whole Foods and found myself wishing they had put the charging port in the front. I had to pull up as far as I possibly could in order for the charging cable to reach my car. Had there been two less inches of clearance in the front and I would have had to pull out and back in. Since i haven't used any other public charging stations, I am wondering if this has been an issue for those of you with more experience with public chargers.

i have the same problem at whole foods. from one side, i can pull my front air dam over the curb and just make it with the evse. but from the other side, i have to back in.
front port would be better, but they put it in back because it's a shorter run to the battery charger, and saves them some heavy cabling.

btw, thanks for changing the subject.:p

I wonder if another reason Toyota put the charge port in back is due to aesthetics. Having the plug door on the fender looks odd in my opinion. Although I suppose in a few years people will be more used to seeing it when plug-ins aren't as rare as they are now. I suppose it's also how other brands make it easier to spot their plug-in version, but the dual-wave spoiler on the Prime takes care of that business in dramatic fashion, and looks good while doing it.

there's so much going on in the front of the prime it might be difficult to find a spot.

Glad to learn this. Was leaning toward the Plus before now the decision is easier.

Rip all your CDs onto a compact USB drive. I carry around 500 CDs that way.

Having the charge port on the back initially seemed like a big problem to me, but it's actually going to work out really well. First, if it were in the front, I'd have to step over it to get in my house. Not so on the back right. Second we have to park facing west at work to avoid getting windows blown out on high wind days, and the chargers are on the east side of the lot. So, I'll have the charger close to the port at work as well.

I made note of this as well. My daily commute is 45-50 minutes one-way. Thanks to CD-based audiobooks from the library, I use that time learning new things, listening to biographies, or soaking up fiction. Just to try it, I burned an entire 9-CD set into iTunes and then downloaded it to my phone to stream via bluetooth.
    1) It felt a little illegal burning a copy of a borrowed resource.
    2) What a major time suck! I can't imagine doing that for every audiobook.

Fortunately, my library participates in Hoopla, which allows borrowing of digital resources.
Though Audio.com and other subscription-based online sources are options, the key point is that I previously had a free resource of materials.

I don't understand the audio system. High quality JBL sound system but no way to actually play high quality sound. MP3, AAC, WMA, broadcast and Sat. are all low fidelity or lossey compressed garbage and don't be fooled by HD Radio "According to iBiquity's website, the "HD" is simply a brand name and has no meaning". Audio jack input only ??

Doesn't anybody just listen to simple AM or FM radio anymore???

Burning, ripping, downloading, USB, Bluetooth... What the heck is all that?! :ROFLMAO: Too much darn distractions going on inside cars. And cell phones are becoming the main cause of traffic accidents and deaths. Even surpassing drunk driving. Auto Manufactures need to make it so that a cell phone will not operate inside of a moving vehicle. At the very least, disable the texting function.

My phone sends an auto reply when the car shifts out of park that I am driving and cannot respond right now. It was a feature that turned on when I connected the bluetooth the first time. Very helpful little feature, especially since my boss, who commutes by train, likes to send text messages on his commute and sometimes expects a response, even though he knows I am driving.

Then again, the car will read the texts from the phone feature...an appreciated function.

I'm a 25 year audiophile and even with high quality playback devices I can't distinguish 192kbps mp3s from the .wav file from which they came. I can't imagine that even 128kbps mp3s will be distinguishable from uncompressed on a relatively low quality (compared to audiophile equipment) JBL audio system in car with road noise and so forth.

And HD Radio is literally digital transmission versus the analog transmission of frequency modulation. It is lossy like mp3s are but the bit rate is usually around the 128kbps range for simulcast.
