Not so fast. Mine had 6K on them before I heard the rattle in the back. So I wonder how that affects tire wear if we catch it in time?

Like the spare tire, plastic seats, and a skinny visor. It saves at least .00000000001964 MPG.

2009 and 2011 were quality cars with leather seats. 2012 I noticed a substantial change.

Still the best car on the road. However MPG is not everything just a factor in the multi regressional analysis.
Wish I had bought that Roll Royce in 1972.
Still concerned about the subdued rattle/knock on cold start up. Any one else notice this? Must be another MPG enhancer with an overly lean engine.

Most likely will not be driving anymore when these two bite the dust. I will need a chauffer which suits me fine as there are total idiots on the road these days. Like swerving in front of me, slam on the breaks, and then turn. Those folks need a firing squad beside the side of the road.

Here's another thing, mine was in dark green metallic paint and like this picture below.

Mine was dark green, but not metallic. It also appears your last name starts with "O" just like mine. We have quite a bit in common, considering our distance & culture differences.

Snarky comments aside (please you can keep them to yourself) people are having problems with the rear suspension in the 2016 Prius. Mine included. The back end rattles on my car almost every bump in the road, it's irritating and I hope my back end is not going to fall apart.

Thanks very much for reporting that.

I'm impressed with the gas mileage I get in my 2016 Prius... That's about it. But everything else about that car is still up in the air. Uncertain. Weird. Strange. Glitches. Oddities. Rattles. Electronic problems. Issues with the door locks. Navigation. The stereo. Moonroof making noise and not closing properly. Defective airbags. Paint chips way too easily. Some guys reported moisture in the headlights/tail lights.... It's a long and growing list. And now we can add bad struts to that!

    Too many recalls already.

I don't think the build quality is that great.

And Toyota doesn't care. They will still sell a few million.

It's the first year of a complete overhaul to the model. Fairly common for the first year of a re-design to have significant bugs

Mine is also doing that. Took it into my local dealer and they didn't find anything. Now that I see this I will bring it back and let them know of the potential issues on others - hope it is the same.

Please continue to keep us informed. Some of us are watching in case we experience the same issues.

I'm having low speed noises. Whenever I hit a bump under 30ish MPH it has a rattle. Both right and left sides. Quite annoying.

My car is still at the dealer being repaired, it's been 5 days. The service advisor was surprised that knew about TBS 0144-16. They gave me a loaner, it's been interesting to drive a different trim. I think it's a Prius 3 with ATP. The HUD and sunroof in this car are great, and it's getting better mileage than my 4 touring. But I want my car back. Both rear strut nuts rattle over low speed bumps. They have decided to replace the rear struts and had to order the parts. I want to go on the record to say that I am not happy about this. I'm concerned about compromising the integrity of a brand new car, taking apart the rear end, when I thought the issue was loose bolts on the top of the struts. What if taking sort the suspension creates other problems, or something goes wrong down the road at a later date? I am going to require a detailed explanation when the car is returned to me. Keep you posted -

I'm taking mine in tomorrow and will provide them this information. Both sides of the rear rattle on mine as well.

My wife took mine into the dealer, and of course they "couldn't hear" the noise. She wouldn't tell me if she told them about the TSB on the strut nuts, so I assume that means she didn't of course. It seems worse when it is cold outside, and it'd been unseasonably warm. They tightened some bolts and installed some sound insulation... I am skeptical. Anticipate once it gets cold again I will resume hearing noises

The problem is intermittent. I notice the rattling most on level road, between 20 and 50 miles per hour, cold temperatures, and also bumpy terrain - i.e. Gravel dirt road or similar.

Repair update: it's now been 7days at the dealer so I called them again (3rd time) and my service advisor said the technician might get to it today... my car is sitting on the lot for a week. I feel they really don't care to or do not know how to fix the problem. Very upset at this point I called Toyota corporate and opened a case. Do the forum moderators/experts here on PriusChat know who to talk to? How do I get this resolved? Again, I'm feeling very uneasy about my new cars suspension being (or in my case not being) taken apart. Mad!

Btw, my loaner is a Prius 3 with 1400 miles. I heard the suspension rattle several times this morning.

Update on my case. They heard the noise - found out that the hatch door was slightly off somehow. He said they realigned it and installed some sort of plastic bumper (not sure where).

Heard no noises on the way home - quite happy right now.

Good news IAPruis! Hope yours has been fixed.

I've wondered about the hatch, and if the liftback door might be rattling against those plastic bumpers. But after reading the threads here on PriusChat and seeing the TSB I'm convinced of the strut nuts.

Update here - I got my car back from Downtown Oakland Toyota, after 8 days just sitting there, and a troubling hassle, bad experience. Their expert technician said he replaced the strut bolts and tightened them. We will see after a few days. They did not fix my dashboard rattle (loose heating duct outlets, see other threads) or even set my tire pressure with the so-called 5K service. Front tires were at 27 and 30 psi. Geesh! I wonder what else they did not do.

IMHO I think it's time to find a better dealership. Your State is big enough to support several Toyota dealer's so perhaps a fellow Californian can identify a (more) reliable one to you. Good luck, you deserve a break after such awful service.(y)

Update for those with rattling rear boots and other interested Prius chatters - After a dealer tightened the rear strut bolts and I realigned and tightened the hatch bumper stops I have no rattling noises. All tight and quiet.

As explained above I had a very experience bad with my local dealer. I have an open case with Toyota USA; they have contacted me 3 times, but no resolution with dealer.
