Yesterday commuting to work, my Gen4 entered EV mode at 106km/h // 65mph...! And this was happening at -2C // 28F! What is the max allowed EV only speed? what is the max EV speed with the ICE still rotating (I had that yesterday - the fuel consumption went to zero, but the EV light was not on - at around the same speeds). I could drive like that for about 10 secs, then speed slowly went down and I had to apply more pressure on the gas pedal to keep up with traffic. It is a weird feeling seeing the Gen4 going EV mode at these speeds....! PS: even if the temps here now are around 0C // 32F, fuel consumption is consistently at least 20% lower than Gen3...!
I see that often - I've a regular 100km/hr commute which has some gentle inclines both up and down, going down, it will generally use only EV at times. If a car in front changes speed, it'll even regenerate /EV alternating.
110km/h is the limit. Soft limit I'm guessing. Cause just like the Gen 3 and its 70km/h limit, I've gone into EV at 73 or 75km/h without the engine spinning but it's only under specific conditions (usually involving a decline of some sort). 90% of the time, it's 70km/h. It is weird to see it go into EV at those speeds. I had it happen once at 100km/h. It was pretty cool. It was a slight decline on the highway in the US and normally the Gen 3 will be in pseudo EV mode where it's battery-to-wheel but I know the engine is pumping somewhere. In the Gen 4, it really is pure EV.
Gen.IV EV top speed is 74 mph. (The only pics I have are at 72 mph in EV.) But as soon as it switched from 73 mph to 74 mph, the EV icon went away and the engine came on. I did notice that the car will routinely switch to EV at 60-65 mph and do a good job holding it for a half mile to a mile or so.
