They are reluctant, but "do not adjust tire air pressure" is #3 on my list of special instructions, and I'm just happy that they manage to observe #1 (do not wash) and #2 (use only the 3 quarts of oil I provide; do not top off).

...I have to pay to put air in my tires at the local gas station. I went to several and they all have coin operated air, so even air isn't free. It took me a $1 to finally fill all four tires to my satisfaction...

In California air must be provided free if you purchase gas at the station. Go to cashier and ask, which I agree is a pain. I buy gas at a station which provides free air to all comers (yes, they still exist).

"....don't know how accurate my gauge is, as I heard the pop-out turkey baster style isn't that accurate..."

I spent $10 on a guage which 1) Has a readout with readout markings every 1 PSI, vs. every 2 PSI which is typical. Black letters on white background, very easy to read. 2) Allows you to remove the guage from tire to read it, very convenient. 3) has a bleed valve, which allows me to sligthtly overfill then quickly and accurately get desired pressure. Very well spent $10. As far as accuracy, as long as the pressure is consistently wrong, even if by a couple PSI, I am not going to sweat it.

    filling when hot/warm
I usually fill on way home, at a station 1 mile from my house. I overfill by 2 PSI, park for night, and next morning bleed off excess. I usually bleed at most 1 PSI, frequently 0. This could be an issue if you want your front tires at Max PSI, which I don't.

I have TripleTreds and the PSI on the side of them says 40. Should I have it higher than that? I have a really good bicycle tire pump that will inflate them to 40 but won't go beyond that so I'd have to go to a gas station to increase it.

The first day that I went from pressures ranging from 25 to 32, as delived from the dealer, to 42/40, I noticed a huge difference in rolling resistance. Try it sometime. Coast down some hills with your tires at the recommended pressures then pump them up to the higher pressures and do the same. The ride may be a little stiffer but the milage increase is worth it in my opinion.

    All,

Just checked my pressures and added a pound or two to bring them back to 42/40 and noticed that on the front tires I am seeing a wear pattern that I don't like. I call it a cheese grater for lack of better terms. I'm sure that there is a technical term for it like chamfer?

It amounts to when you rub your hand around the tread, it feels smooth but when you reverse the direction, your hand hangs up on the tread. Each cleat is worn more on one edge than the other.

    Has anyone else experienced this?

If it says 40PSI on the tire than that is most likely MAX PSI. Though it seems kind of low for MAX PSI, don't go over or it may damage your tires.

I don't worry about what they do, I take care of my tire pressure myself.
