Collision avoidance

I have tried almost every TSS except this pre-collision feature. Actually too afraid to try it. I just watched the video and learned from it.

It means that the system is set up to not make a mistake. If in doubt, it remains inactive.

 

It means, if you ever get into an accident, it was NOT under "certain conditions"!

The second day after we got our Subie that has these features, we took it to an empty parking lot and tested them with a large flat screen TV box (empty of course!). We had watched the official corporate videos but it's just now the same as experiencing it first hand.

 

It means that you, not the collision avoidance system, are still responsible for the safe operation of the vehicle. This system does not give you permission to take your mind off the road and shift your focus to a smartphone or napping.

Don't treat it as a 'self-driving' car. The technology available to consumers is not yet at the level, and won't be for at least several more years.

Don't be like the Tesla driver who was killed when the misnamed 'autopilot' failed to detect a hazardous situation, and the driver wasn't paying sufficient attention. Too many consumers are letting their expectations get ahead of the available technology.

Yep. Sometimes it will work very well. Other times it won't do what you hope it'll do, so you can only count on the person looking back at you from your mirror.
