Did any of you catch the movie? Wondering why there wasn't even one mention of the hybrid / prius. I thought the NY Times review was lame, but I would have liked to see a hybrid character. Have any of you seen the FJ cruiser? What do you think?
I didn't see a prius, or anything Toyota in the movie. I remember a Porsche car, Mack semi truck.. maybe a couple of other cars branded like that. But for the most part the cars didn't really play toward their name plates. Cost of fuel, fuel efficiency wasn't a theme in the movie, so it makes sense they didn't put emphasis on this. Also, I bet the script was pretty much written about 3 to 5 years ago and it's been in production for a long time. Both the Prius and cost of fuel has pretty much happened since then. If they were writing the script a year ago, perhaps they would have put in a hybrid character of some sort. Cars was ok.. good even.... But Over the Hedge was really funny..
Personally I thought the movie was hilarious. I'm even considering purchasing the DVD when it comes out. As I own about 6 movies this is something for me. Fuel consumption not covered. But the walk down memory lane was awesome. Plenty of little fun quips thrown in for us "old" folks who remember when. The signs and stickers had me cracking up so much I missed a few moments. It was defintely worth the fifteen dollars my friend and I split to go with four kids (yup that's six people total for 15 dollars) to the Tri-Town Drive In located in Leominster/Fitchburg. I might even go see it again with other friends and their kids if it comes to the drive in again.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(daronspicher @ Jun 11 2006, 03:41 AM) </div> Although they did work in a joke about SUVs being afraid to get dirty.
It is too bad they did not put in a Prius - could have been 'parked' out by the hippy van. As with many animated features - you should sit through all the credits. B)
I was first sad that they didn't sport a hybrid, but the more I think about it, they may have poked fun of the character, maybe displayed that it's weak or something, so it's probably best they didn't bring it up- like other's mentioned, fuel economy wasn't mentioned. Although saving the planet and saving natural resources may have made a better movie I thought the movie was drawn out too long myself- cute yes, but Over The Hedge was better IMO
I had not expectation to see a hybrid... knowing how long the movie had been in production. That many years ago, it simply wouldn't have made any sense. Back then, most people still didn't even know what a hybrid was.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(daronspicher @ Jun 11 2006, 03:41 AM) </div> Over the Hedge was fantastic, I saw it twice! I liked the crack the racoon made about the SUV. The other animals were amazed by its enormity when they first saw it, and asked how many humans could fit inside of it. The racoon's answer: "Usually, just one." I can't wait to see Cars and An Inconvenient Truth either this weekend or next.
Yes that was a great comment! Rancid, I will have to meet you someday when I am down in LA... Do you go to any Prius meets? You seem cool

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(aaf709 @ Jun 14 2006, 11:12 AM) </div> Can anyone translate the Japanese in the last frame?
we thought about seeing cars.. but went to over the hedge instead. and it was so funny! if we've got the money one of these days we'll go see cars too.
