<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(mikepaul @ Jun 7 2006, 01:09 PM) </div> Then the definition is WRONG. I wouldn't want to live by a ghetto any more than a white trash trailer park, and I would exclude BOTH from where I choose to live. Guess I'm a racist then...
While studying for my Bachelors of Education, I had a required course named "Teaching in a Pluralistic Society." We weren't allowed to call it, "Multicultural Education." This was at Indiana University. Not a small school but attended by quite a few people from Indiana. For those who don't know, there are some very large cities in Indiana but there are many many people who grew up - like I did - in a smallish mostly-rural town. On the first day of class, the teacher asked a series of questions: who was born and rasied in Indiana? Of those, those are from a town with less than 100,000 people. Who's from a town with less than 50,000? 10,000? And at this point, it was me an another guy. She made her first mistake of the semester by singling me out and asking me, "what do you think you know about multiculturalism?" Personally, I didn't like the tone of her voice any more than I did the accusations she seemed to be making. What she didn't know about me was that the weekend prior I spent with my Jewish girlfriend's parents and that morning I walked to class with my black neighbor who also happened to be an Ed Major I studied with the previous year. So I decided to tear into her and it went a little something like this: "I know that I love the smurfs. But you see, I don't like all the smurfs. Pappa Smurf is a great father-figure, but brainy smurf thinks he's more intelligent than he is and sleepy smurf just gets in everybody's way. And Jokey Smurf? Well he just needs a good whooping. And here's the kicker: they are all blue. They all run around in those white suspenders and they all have those little worthless stubby tails. And yet, I can name them, I can tell them apart, and I know which ones I like and which ones I don't. But some people tend to believe that some of us get too wrapped up in what someone looks like to really get to know what that person is like. And to those people, I talk about smurfs. You see, in my home town, more than 99% of us are Christian, all of us are of European decent, and every single one of us goes to the same high school - the only one in town. By some people's measure, I should love and respect every single one of those people because they look like me, go to church with me, we share the same ancestors, and I sit beside them in class every single day. But I don't. Of course, there are some that I like a lot; they are friends I'll have for the rest of my life. But then there are others who I can't stand at all. You might think it's hard to tell one from another since they all look the same, but I know which is which and who is who because I took the time to get to know each and every one of them before I decided whether I liked them or not. You see, just like smurfs, when you're stuck in a microcosm of monocultural twins, you have to look past the features, past the ancestors, past the church, and past the political affiliation to really get to know the person who will either be your friend or your enemy. I grew up having to do this with every single person I've ever met. But Farmer Smurf. I think he's my favorite." It helps to know that while I was on this rampage of metaphores and anologies, my black neighbor, a very large and intimidating IU football lineman, was sitting next to, jabbing me with his elbow and whispering "go man go." She never called on me again. I got an A in the class.

Both the thoughts and actions are still racist. Thankfully, thought crimes ala 1984 are not yet detectable, or we'd all be in a lot more trouble.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Mystery Squid @ Jun 7 2006, 02:24 PM) </div> First off, 3-b of http://www.m-w.com/dictionary/ghetto goes hand-in-hand with the topic, so I'm glad you mentioned it. Second off, isn't it odd to automatically link 'ghetto' to an absence of white people, without some problem with the presence of non-white people? http://www.m-w.com/dictionary/Weaseling on the issue won't help, you know. Absolutely every turn you take to explain the hows and whys some non-white people don't make good neighbors without actually having their names and crimes in-hand just nails to coffin tighter. Same is true for anyone not wanting white neighbors...
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(TonyPSchaefer @ Jun 7 2006, 01:59 PM) </div> I want intelligent, attractive neighbours who garden in their bikinis. Wait, I already have that. Wth am I doing here?
Ok I ran into one today, (another example) (Politically correct for the libs) Driving down a nieborhood street and a parent flaggs me down and says some one just took my sons new bike... I asked did you see who took it? she replied no, so I took the report finnished the report and stopped at the local 7-11 and poof there was the bike... I waited and a young black male walked up to the bike as if to get on and ride it away but he saw me (darn marked car) and walked away from the bike I approached him and asked about the bike. His first responce was you all harrass me all the time because im black, second respoce was I was a racist, He then said a friend loaned it to him 5 mins ago.. I did a field contact and let him go & returned the bike to the owner... I wanted to tell him "Im not a racist and that I hate everyone equally".
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(priusguy04 @ Jun 7 2006, 06:59 PM) </div> OK, "ran into one", what? A racist? A liar? A chance for you to stereotype millions of people?...
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(mikepaul @ Jun 8 2006, 09:37 AM) </div> The pieces of the puzzle are falling into place and the image is quite disturbing. priusguy04 is nothing but an old fashioned racial profiling cop. He is an embarrassment to all members of the law enforcement profession. One day, all of his posts in this forum will come back to bite him big time. Just ask former Los Angeles Homicide detective Mark Fuhrman. priusguy04 is not as anonymous here as he may think he is.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(IsrAmeriPrius @ Jun 8 2006, 06:43 PM) </div> Yeah, but OJ still did it... Furthermore, there is nothing in his post to indicate any sort of profiling AT ALL.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(IsrAmeriPrius @ Jun 8 2006, 06:43 PM) </div> Thats your opinion, However its wrong! Tell me hows the broken arm doing, IsrAmeriPrius? You know the one you broke while patting your self on the back so much... racial profiling is a thing of the the past I/we treat everyone with respect and give the beinifit of the doubt unless given a reason to doubt thier story. This day and age it seems our court system treats one like they are guilty until proven innocent.. Then we have others that attempt to pass the 8 ball to other posters because they dont see things your way. Your a perfect example.. One can read your posting and see what your trying to do label one a racisist for posting a topic and giving examples , dude time to remove the rose colored glasses and stop trolling.. And yes I take Offence to being called a racisist, as I respect everyone until Im given a reason not too.
There ya go.........ANYONE can read racism into ANY act you do or do not do. Ya' know...I agree with the statement that my predjudice is against the color BROWN....I dislike (don't like the word "hate" anymore) pieces of sh*t who commit crime. (for those of you who don't get it.....sh*t is brown) SO, since I will be "damned if I do...damned if I don't"...I'll just go ahead and do.
I do not know, but I'd have to say a stereotype is a stereotype for a reason... Yeah, I know that sounds pretty ugly, but if my life were on the line on a daily basis, even though I'd be equally paranoid about every encounter, I'm sure there would be some for which I'd be even MORE paranoid... When it comes to bullets, and my life, I'm sure as hell not going to be pc.... h34r:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Race The concept of "race" (species) in reference to humans is archaic and was never valid. The concept of "race" is not supported by the human genome project (no one can identify a specific allele for skin pigmentation). Skin pigmentation does not denote different species of humans, but rather is a long-term adaptation to UV radiation. Generally, groups of people with greater skin pigmentation trace their ancestry to close to the equator. Groups with lesser skin pigmentation developed closer to the poles. A "white" person is an albino who lacks pigment and must stay out of the sun and UV radiation. Unfortunately, the concept of "race" was conceived in the late 1700s and is not credible. Many "white" people will claim to be caucasian - but they were not born in the Caucasus Mountains (between the Black and Caspian Seas) nor can they identify where the Caucasus Mountains are located. Numerous articles in Scientific American, Science, Nature and other journals have discussed this to an extreme. We need better terminology. When someone makes an allegation of "racism" - I ask, pro or con human? Or pro or con what other species?
Just a heads up: Bigot: is a prejudiced person who is intolerant of opinions, lifestyles or identities differing from his or her own. The origin of the word in English dates back to at least 1598, via Middle French, and started with the sense of religious hypocrite, especially a woman. Bigot: is often used as a pejorative term against a person who is obstinately devoted to his or her prejudices even when these views are challenged or proven to be false. Forms of bigotry may have a related ideology or world views. *********************************************** Racialism is an emphasis on race or racial considerations.[1] Sometimes this refers to the controversial belief in the existence and significance of racial categories. Racialism was very common throughout Europe, North America, and Australia through the 18th and 19th centuries, and continues on to a lesser degree today. Although the term is sometimes used in contrast to racism, especially in academia (it is in this case a synonym of scientific racism), it is also used synonymously with racism. In separatist identity politics, the term may be used to emphasise perceived social and cultural differences between "races". Separatists may say that although they do not see themselves as superior to — or feel hatred towards — other "races", they nevertheless believe that the races should not live together (see white separatism and black separatism). *********************************************** I tend to think the two words are used here erronisly as the word racist is used to describe more than just a black/white issue. It covers a more broader range of topics, example: people that believe that their race shouldn't marry outside thier own race wether its hispanic, black, white or indian. This to would be concidered being a racist. As taken from Wikpiedea

You are the one who negatively stereotyped and painted broad generalizations about people based upon their race and the color of their skin.

Aren't you opposed to allowing gay people to marry based upon your religious principles? I could go on and on and on. You may not realize it, but that is ramming your brand of religion down other people's throats. That is not bigotry, that is the plain truth. Why can't you just be and let others be?
