True but I just want to get away in my life time from gas. Hopefully we get there. Thx

AWD would be a more successful upsell, but E-four likely isn't powerful enough for what most American AWD buyers think they need from it.

Then they're wrong. This isn't an off road modification, it's for getting unstuck and keeping from getting stuck at low speeds. It's plenty powerful enough for that if it meets the specs Toyota provided.

I agree they are wrong if they want it for poor weather and not performance. Unfortunately, it is easier for Toyota to not offer it than try to properly educate consumers.

If we're going to have to live with a raised charge area I'd rather sacrifice it for a rear motor than the NiMH solar (buffer) battery.

Yeah, it's an older style motor and it's rated at 7hp (5.3kW). This compares to the RAV4 Hybrid's motor that's rated at 67hp (50kW).

There's a 10x difference in rated power between the Prius E-Four and the RAV4 Hybrid's rear electric motor. It may be plenty powerful for Japan but Americans have different expectations.

    A Prime E-Four isn't going to happen.

    So what?

Their expectations are also irrelevant. Some expect no less than 400HP in a car and wouldn't be caught dead in a Prius. Others, like us, expect 50MPG and wouldn't be caught dead in anything less.

There's no good reason for it not to. The car can handle it, the battery is plenty powerful enough, it's just a matter of weight rating problems the same as the 5th seat. And that's not a good reason.

Got it. Yeah, I think the blind spot and rear cross traffic (esp w that Prime rear window) will make the Advanced worth it. Thanks!

Thanks everyone for the feedback! Its great to have a forum like this. The plug-in hybrid is perfect for me and I love being less gas reliant. I'm going to go with the Advanced. Hopefully I'll have one soon!

I am looking into the Plus. Is the Premium worth the extra $3k? The major difference I see is the larger screen.

Isn't the Premium only $1,700 extra compared to the Plus? ($28,800 MSRP for the Premium vs. $27,100 for the Plus).

    Going from Plus to Premium,

    • 11.6" HD Multi-Function Screen
    • SofTex synthetic leather seats
    • 10-way power driver's seat
    • Automatic headlights
    • Smart charging cable lock (tied to SKS)
    • 3-dr SKS
    • Qi Wireless Charging
    • Charging station map in the nav

I guess the other major items will be the upholstery type, whether you want an electrically adjustable seat and 3-door Smart Key.

you can not get an OEM, even if it is toyota genuine, Auto-dimming rearview mirror with HomeLink®21 universal transceiver, This along makes me go for the advance, which is kinda rediculous, i really dont care about any other tech upgrades

After driving around last night having to use the climate control to defog the windows I suddenly found myself reevaluating the value of the Advanced over the Premium/Plus. That heated steering wheel all the sudden became a must-have feature. (When running the defroster/defogger you don't get any air coming out of the center vents to warm your hands.) The HUD would also be nice, especially since Toyota insists on having the speedometer off to my right rather than right in front of me. Fog lights could prove to be very useful as well. Oh, and I wouldn't mind having that $4,000 mirror. :p

Huh? You can add it on afterwards.

Both are used in Toyota and Lexus vehicles.

But I agree, it seems weird that they've kept it to the top model.

Edit: I can't seem to add more than 1 Amazon link.
