might be worth replacing the pcv and cleaning the intake manifold.

Do you park on this slope or just traverse it?

I agree with @bisco about the problem being on the intake side of the equation. As you attempt to apply load to the car is when it knocks. Might also be worth looking at the throttle body and cleaning it in addition.

I really think there's some hyperbole in the slope spec., lol. Still, if the issue is happening on a steep upgrade, there's some clue in there I think. Maybe even pending transaxle failure??

Where does one find a 35-40-45 degree slope? I guess there are no roads as such with this inclination as tge steepest in the world is 35% grade (19°).

If this inclination is in your property, do you park the car at this angle for long periods of time?

I didnt park just traversing.first i said 40degrees without measuring just to give an idea this happens in a slope.but here in srilanka we get so many places with 25 to 30 degree slope.i also think this issue must be regarding intake area and egr valve.thanks! but here hybrid repairing center diagnos the car with their scanner, they said it says replace the battery pack.before buying a battery pack want to confirm is this regarding hv battery weakness.cell voltages given in the scanner are 15.4 15.2v for most of the cells.one cell gave 14.7 these figures when ice running(charging ).

I don't remember seeing in your earlier posts about any lights on the dash. Did any lights show up on the dash prior to this diagnosis? Did they share any additional information from their scan, or just the voltages? What do you know about this shop and what track record do they have?

Not sure what warranties are like over in Europe, but you are under 100 k miles and that was a warranty level here in the states for non-CARB states. Might be worth looking into then circling back to a dealer, if this is truly the cause of the issues and believe the diagnosis.

As for the intake / egr system there can be a fair bit of carbon deposits that collect and cause poor transition from electric motor to ICE. Worth investigating more IMO before dropping serious $$$$ on a new, used or refurbished hybrid battery pack.

Thank you! Last week once i got the check engine and check hybrid system message with brakes lights on but not abs.they cleared error with the scanner. that day they showed me battery pack replace error on scanner.here in Srilanka we got only 100000km warranty from toyota.and lot of used hybrid vehicles coming to island from japan.but im having this since 2010.this hybrid centre is ok , they did egr cleaning on my car 30000km back when it was 105000km.here used hybrid battery cost nearly 1500us $ 2013 coming from japan.so i thought first to do manifold cleaning and egr valve pipe and injectors.

Above photo i took when they opened the battery pack and did some contact cleaning with wurth contact cleaning solution and ventilation fan.but nothing changed after this still knocks in a slope when climbing. NOT ALWAYS SOME TIMES ONLY

I think you are dealing with 2 separate issues. The first is related to an ICE issue and a separate hybrid battery issue. Fixing one may not fix all, and I think that's what you are reporting.

When you said they cleaned the egr, was that just the valve, the pipe connecting the egr to the intake manifold, the egr cooler? Did they replace anything? How long did it take them to perform the service? What condition did they report when they performed the service for you?

Have you tried to simulate this scenario(full throttle or high load at start from stop sign or light, etc.) and can you cause it or is it intermittent and not predictable?

The hills over there sound steep. Batteries and hills do not commingle well together, and it sounds like this is not an isolated incident.

Good luck and keep us posted(y).

Today did EGR valve+EGR pipe+Intake manifold+throttle body+ plugs and fuel injector cleaning.EGR valve and pipe heavily blocked.inside throttle body some greasy oily stuff.now the car pulls quickly.can see a big difference, but the battery pack have to change, that still reads on scanner.as raytheeagle said there are two separate issues.one resolved.

The only thing left to potentially clean would be the egr cooler, but that's more involved.

The oil you saw below the throttle body was from the engine as the Atkinson style engine naturally passes oil. It will return.

What did you use to clean the small passages from the egr back into the intake manifold?

One problem down, one more to go;).

And that's the tough one, involves coolant draining, and access is tough, you pretty much need to remove the wipers, their motors and the bottom of windshield cowl I think. Per @NutzAboutBolts sparkplug change video* in the maintenance section. And maybe approach from below as well, ie: raise the car and take off the engine underpanel.

Even once it's off, if it's badly clogged, replacement might be preferable to attempting to clean?

    * @NutzAboutBolts video about engine coolant change will also come in handy.

i wouldn't replace the pack until you get the red triangle, and the codes, and cell differentiation testing under load.

Before I cleaned the cooler out, I got a spare egr valve and cooler from the salvage yard. Cleaned them prior to installation about 25 k miles ago and still running strong. The ones that came out had deposits and would have taken time to do and added to the job.

Best time to do this job is to schedule with an engine coolant replacement ;).

And maybe with time and a lot of soaking you can clean your old one, sell it. Or hey: you're armed with a spare.

+1 for keeping and reusing. My original will be going back into service at 200k miles when the spark plugs and coolants are going to be done:). I use air to clean the cooler as the fins inside the cooler are close together and air does a good job over time.

But I've got 55 k miles until that point;).

Can you remind me: what miles were you at when you did the egr cooler?

Edit: see it was at 120,000 miles, happened to see your post here:

Thanks! They didnt remove egr cooler but sprayed injector cleaning solution and then high pressure air, they did this thrice with 10min intervals.for other cleaning also they used injector/fuel system cleaning spray cans.brand name " wurth".

Another thing Hv battery issue came after when i changed my 12v battery.original battery lasted more than 5 years.last september i changed it.but i didnt put deep cycle battery.they reccomended then i to put panasonic semi seal type maintainace free lead acid battery.now 3 months.today i checked the voltages of this 12v battery.it shows 13.5v when hybrid system ac blower on it shows 14.8v. is this abnormal? Whats the difference between putting normal lead acid12v bat instead of deepcycle fullseal 12v battery? Any issue of impedance? Or charging draining times?
