I agree - I drove Corolla and wasn't impressed. I then drove Corolla HYBRID which was better, but PRIUS 4th Generation was by far the superior car. The only time my PRIUS has been approaching uncomfortable was when I pumped my tyres up higher, which made no difference to economy, but made the ride noisier. The only Corolla I'd consider would be a MANUAL Transmission, not the belt type CVT which was unconvincing..

But drive it in PWR MODE - not the ECO MODE, which dulls throttle response.

Yeah I'm getting there too. At least my memory's fading just as fast, don't much recall what's come-n-gone: so it's a wash. :)

I think a Corolla Hybrid in the US would be good. I doubt "big oil" would like it, though.

Whooops, sorry - I assumed you had it - seeing you have RAVE4 & HighLander HYBRIDS - which we don't get. It is based on the Gen3 Prius drivetrain, and was a nicer drive than the standard CVT Corolla - (though the Manual Tranny was the better of the 3).

I guess they expect the Prius c to fill that spot. I initially expected a Corolla Hybrid, not a Camry. I thought both Camry & Prius were supposed to be classed as mid-sized vehicles based on interior space.

Yes, maybe - though my recollection of Prius c was not very positive, the Corolla was a much more convincing drive. We get the Camry Hybrid too, but I wanted the flexibility of fold down back seats which Camry didn't have.

Here, the Camry Hybrid does not get nearly as good mileage as the Prius.

Yes, that too - though I guess it is a bigger car - for long distance touring it might be a more comfortable vehicle with 5 occupants. And here, Camry resale is appreciably worse than Corolla (and worse than PRIUS too).

60-80 miles, eh? I think the seats in the Gen 4 Prius will be more comfortable after the 30-40 mile trip than a Corolla. The Chief Engineer has a bad back and he wanted to ensure the front seats were comfortable for someone with that condition.

The Prius has full-speed DRCC included with its TSS-P package while the Corolla just has "regular" DRCC. Full-speed means the radar cruise works down to 0mph - great if it happen to hit construction or gridlock. The Corolla will cancel out around 15mph.

If you're in a CARB state, the battery is warranted for 10 years or 160,000 miles.

Both Prius and Corolla have TSS-P standard for 2017 which includes DRCC. The difference is that the Prius has full-speed DRCC and the Corolla doesn't.

Not for long :( They're moving the Corolla production to Mexico. I can't remember what they're replacing it with. TMMC makes the ES and RX (gas only... ESh and RXh are still made in Japan). They *might* be moving the RXh hybrid production to TMMC.

Not my 2010. It's creaking (plastic piece above the pedals, centre console where the cupholder meets the console box and occasionally the tonneau cover).

The Camry Hybrid was Canada's best selling hybrid for the longest time.... until the RAV4 Hybrid came along.

Not in the Trim level Two!

The seats are horribly uncomfortable for long trips. Some of my household say the comfort is worse than the 2015 Prius v trim 5 my son owns. My wife & son discovered this on a round trip that was 750 miles each way.
I know that on our last 3 hour trip. he made sure to sit on an additional cushion. I do not think he does that in long trips with his Prius v.
It does make me wonder whether I should have got a Camry. We determined the Corolla was too small for us.

Well we just test drove a Toyota Corolla and I found that it was to tinny feeling going down the interstate I would much rather have the Prius than the Corolla
I feel there's too much sacrifice in the ride when you go with the Corolla versus something like even the Camry

I expect trim levels and which OEM tires are on the car play a role here.
Some people here have found some OEM tires nosier than others on the Gen 4 Prius.

If it means anything my 06 prius has 260k, my 07 has 165k and my Co worker had an 05 with almost 400k all original batteries. It's typically when they sit not bring driven for extended periods that the hybrid battery fails.

It's the same seat design but it's possible that different upholstery can change the way it feels.

I think it's more of the seat height than the seat design that's bothering you if your household prefers the Prius v. The seat on the v is approximately 1" higher than the Gen 3 so your knees are higher relative to your ankles than on a Gen 4 where you sit lower and your knees are at a lower elevation and closer to the height of your ankles. (i.e. you're stretched out)

The issue is butt & thighs. I believe we we have the driver's seat at the highest level.

Seat height in Gen 4 is critical for comfortability. Too high and your thighs will strain, too low and something else will hurt. My advice would be to take your time to find this optimum position and you'll find those rose tinted spectacles again.

Some of us are short in the torso and want the height to improve forward visibility.
It is very possible UK seats are different than US. Toyota USA seems to "cut corners" at times.

Thank you all for your replies.

Your responses made me feel better about buying a Prius. Only thing now is I may have waited too long to get a 2016 model. 2017 is just as good right?

btw I'm in Northern California. Lot of Prius cars here.
