every time i park my car somewhere, i exit my 2015 Prius C 3 and try to lock the car by pressing on the two lines on the handle and it takes between 6-25 seconds before it locks. this sensor was working fine for the past 11 months but now there is a delay in locking, usually locks after the courtesy dome lights turn off. any ideas on how i can fix this?

On our regular Prius there's some mention (in the Owner's Manual) to pinch the handle, ie: have fingers above and below the handle. There's sensors above and below, maybe yours is similar? Take a look if there's two lines also on the underside. Might help.

Hey thanks for the suggestion Mendel, my car does not have any sensors above or below. I tried switching fobs with no success, still a delay where no delay existed before... Shall I warranty it?

Maybe my language is confusing? You have the "two lines" on top of the handle; is there a similar pair of lines on underside of handle?

Oh yeah the two lines are actually lateral on the door handle. No lines exist superior or inferior of the handle :(

If your car has the auto lock feature (30 seconds after exiting), I suspect that the sensor on the handle are not functioning and it is the auto lock that is locking the door.

Oh I did notice that option so I turn it off and car still wouldn't locking when touching the sensor until after 20-30 seconds of standing there and pressing the sensor I look at my key fob and it lights up red each time I touch it this delay is crazy

By the way I notice I can usually lock by touching the sensor until after the middle info screen turns off on the dashboard (next to the mph screen) after turning off the car...

The dealership saif nothing was wrong but I told them when I bought it new it could lock immediately after leaving the vehicle via door sensor or key fob and now I have to wait until the info screen turns off. They said other Prius C's did that.

Please tell me if your Prius C also needs to wait until it powers off completely before you can lock it via door sensor or key fob? I wish it was like the good old days of immediate locking after exiting my baby :(

Perhaps a call to Toyota to report the issue and see if there is a known remedy that your dealer is unaware of.

I will definitely call them and see what is going on. It's crazy to think that it's okay to have to wait next to my Prius C for 20 seconds before I can lock it. Oh man

I called Toyota and they said no recall on having to wait 20 seconds to lock the door via key fob and via door sensor. They said if the dealer says it's normal then it's normal for me to not be able to lock the door immediately with my key fob and sensor when for a whole year I was able to lock the doors immediately. I don't know what's going on.

Can you tell me if you are able to lock your door immediately after turning off your car via key fob or door sensor?

This is a strange problem and I'm sure it's very annoying. My suggestion would be to throughly clean both front door handles, on the top and bottom of the handle. Contamination like tree sap or dirt could be causing phantom inputs to the touch sensors for lock/unlock.

Make sure that the lock and unlock button on the hatch both work. One could be stuck.

They all work fine. Its very random. Sometime it locks right away, sometimes I gotta wait a long while.

Finally got the dealer to figure out that the sensor is experiencing intermittent issues.

They changed out the sensor I believe but the issue is still occurring... Not sure if they did it in the first place. Will need to bring it back.
