Looks like the Prime is a phantom Prius for me. Confirmed yesterday with the dealer in Anchorage Alaska that Toyota won't allow them to sell OR service a Prime in Alaska. Too bad; I was getting interested.

i wouldn't trust the dealer, toyota has already stated it's a 50 state vehicle. some dealers just aren't interested, and try to claim toyota is the problem. of course, if the dealer isn't interested, that would make repairs a bit dodgy.

Anyone ever use TrueCar . com? I gave it some info just a few hours ago, and now have more spam and phone calls waking me up than I ever thought possible. The phone has rung 5 times in the last 20 minutes with "dealers" saying they'll be able to get me a car, my "Preferred model 4." In fact, they have all said it just that exact way as if off a script. I told one of them they aren't called that - there are only three trim levels. She said, "Oh, we can also get you a Three." "You mean an Advanced?" "Sure."

Clearly, this site is some sort of something very odd. All these calls, from people with names that I can't believe, are coming from the same boiler room operation. The background noise and conversations could be out of some 60 Minutes piece on scams. I wish I had caller ID. Maybe I do, since I use Vonage. My wife will be able to look that up, probably.

None of these callers know anything about the car. I don't know what I have done, but I expect a s*i*storm of crap coming my way, I will say one of them did promise me they could get me into a new car in only 6 to 8 months. Yeah, right.

At best, TrueCar is some shady intermediary service the dealers have tossed money at, as a way to get you into their door.

So, is there some better site/ap that does what TrueCar promised to do, but can actually inform you of real-life dealer stock in a given area/region?

They are collecting and selling customer leads. The dealer websites chat option has the same aroma. They ask a bunch of questions, never answer a direct question, and after 5-10 minutes ask for contact information.

    Both are useless.

There are lots of other models of Prii in Alaska. And other northern states get cold.

like the midwest. Maybe they're being distributed through osmosis and we just have to wait for them to filter through from the coasts. :(

no, black. Isn't the black better, not showing dirt or wear, or most importantly, food stains?

i guess, i just think it would be hot. i like the looks of the moonstone, but probably would have to keep it clean and don't eat in the car.
i had beige cloth in my '04, and didn't have any trouble, but my kids are grown and gone too.

I am thinking that dealerships that have a single Prime listed probably are holding that car for someone who special ordered.

Maybe but I'm thinking with SofTex, it might be easier to maintain a white interior than if it was leather.

I had a thread going on Moonstone I hope owners update it as the years go by.

The "in" colour or the trend is a white interior of some sort. Mazda was the first to offer it recently in their 6. It's called "off-white" and it's a special order in Canada. Tesla also offers an "Ultra White" interior for the Model X in both synthetic and real leather upholstery. Land Rover also offers white interiors for their latest offerings.

Yes I know white interiors have been offered in the past (Cadillac and Jag for example) but the modern interpretation pairs it with contrasting elements (usually black)

What is happening in the midwest? I have now talked with 6 dealers in Illinois and all say they haven't ordered any, aren't going to order any, and will not ever stock Primes. Only a special order might get a customer a car, and I'd sure bet a very special price (for the dealer). And all are towing the same exact 6 to 8 months if they order a car for a customer. What the heck are they all smoking?

Could it be some Prime hating Toyota regional manager is to blame for this? I swear the dealers are all using the same script.
