My parents got one of these, new. Our first car. I loved the smell, the smell of Volkswagen. We test drove a Jetta, maybe a decade back, and they STILL have that VW smell. Anyway, a trip down memory lane: the '58 Volkwagen Beetle Owner's Manual. Less than 100 pages, manages to cover pretty much everything, rivals a Shop Manual! I've made a pdf compilation for convenience. And here's a link, to the source page, with jpg's of the pages: TheSamba.com :: April 1958 VW Bug Owner's Manual
Awesome! Thanks for sharing. That it covers not only general maintenance but other things like adjusting valve clearances, lubricating window cranks inside the doors, gaping spark plugs, and carb disassembly and adjustments too=Mind blown. WOW! Newbies, please listen to your old German uncle's advice on economical driving:
Surprised that chart doesn't include prevailing wind direction too. Looks like at 90 mph, you either run out of fuel or become airborne!
That because a 1958 VW will only do 90 if it has a long down-hill slope with a hurricane tailwind. 36hp will only push so hard... Bill the Engineer
My Dad's '58 VW Convertible from back in the day. He fixed it up with used parts from a half dozen different model year VW's and painted it bright yellow before he sold it. Bill the Engineer
