Just wondering how everyone is liking their new Prime. Also are they getting the electric range with fuel mileage as promised.

I don't have a Prime, but I was wondering the same thing.

I also just wanted to mention the new Honda EV, shown at the LA auto show. Beautiful car. Gets over 300 miles on a charge, but you don't plug it in. It runs on a hydrogen fuel cell. Don't know how practical that would be…

And the Chevy Bolt won the green car of the year award. And Hyundai has four new hybrid and/or EV vehicles coming out. The market is going to be loaded with lots of choices next year. And they are really nice looking vehicles. Prius just might be old news…

We have seen many past posts about the demise of the Prius in it's various configurations. When someone can match Toyota's reliability and the Prius mpg/e, then maybe they will have something. Fuel cell and EV cars are not yet ready for Prime time (pun intended).

Absolutely agree. That's why I bought one. :) Never thought I would ever own a car that gets 62+ mpg, on a consistent basis, and just driving it like a regular car (no hyper-miling). Except for the few annoying recalls, it's been great.

    *** LEARN TO USE THE

That was not my intention. Apologies. (Must be the full moon.)

The Prime would have been a perfect car for me, when I was working. I lived only 2 miles from work. Not sure why I didn't consider a Prius back then... Should have. All those short trips wreaked havoc on my V6 Camry.
In my opinion, the Prime is the best looking Prius to date.

    MULTI-QUOTE FUNCTION ALREADY *******

Thanks, bisco. It's not intentional, but I have a bad habit of doing that. I guess my mind is racing ahead of me and I get off the subject. My apologies again.

For a short hop of 2 miles a PHV would be far superior to a HV because the warm up period just kills the MPG. For my trips to the grocery store my MPG is no better than an ordinary gas vehicle. It is for short hops like these that I am very much interested in the Prime. Plus, it "is the best looking Prius to date." :) (Although I do like the way my Prius C looks. :p )

Lol thanks for the help trying. I have been looking on You Tube for a video like this one....
He did a great video on the Volt. That's the kind of details I am looking for. Even though my Prime should be here today to 11-23.

    Subtle Volt ad? :)

The Fast Lane Car did a video review of the Prime. They travelled 21 miles with 18% battery left while AC was on. If you do the math, that works out to 25.6 miles range on full charge.

One of the things I find remarkable, and that probably contributes to its mileage, is the amount of charge built up just coming to a gradual stop, or coasting down a slight downgrade with a very light touch on the brake. It's almost, but not quite, neutral when driving around town. At least for me.

When I tum my Prime on after a fresh charge, the dashboard claims I have 24.7mi left in EV only. That's at an outside temp of about freezing.
My typical drive includes climbing a 400ft 7deg driveway, 2000ft of level dirt road, then accelerating to 55mph+ on a rural highway, driving about 12 miles into town, then the reverse. I'm usually down to less than .5mi of EV left when I get home. I'll be interested in seeing the range as the temperature goes up.

At this moment, my dashboard shows I've gone 204 miles at 199mpg on this tankful. That included two trips of 50 miles each, which I drove in ECO mode. The fuel gauge shows one bar consumed.

Wow, at freezing! Anybody operating one well below freezing point? What effect on the EV mileage does that have?

I have had my Prime Advanced for almost a month. When the car has just been charged I have a little over 30 miles of electric range. I usually get that much or more (no idea how...since that is more than advertised). My commute is 18 miles each way. I generally get about 30 electric and the last few miles in the evening are hybrid. So far loving the electric range and low gas usage!!!

Wanted to add. I live in Los Angeles. These ranges are reflected when I leave my house in the morning and the weather is between 40-55 degrees. Cold for us, but not severe winter temperatures.

    Thanks!

Stop and go freeway most of the way. Anywhere between 10mph to 70mph (if I'm lucky). No hills on my commute. I have noticed that using the heater this really reduced my electric range. Trying to just enjoy the heated seats and steering wheel.

Freeway at 75 I have been getting about 22 miles per charge. Driving around town not being too eco, been around 30 most of the time. I tried to do the best I could at being eco in town and was able to get 42 miles out of one charge.
