Are they really discontinuing the Prius C? Is the base Prius just going to cost 19K like the Prius C or is it just going away entirely?

  2. Where did you read that they were going to do that?
    1. Prius c is their cheapest hybrid.
    2. Prius c gets the 2nd best city fuel economy of their hybrids, with only the recently-redesigned regular Prius (2016) edging out.
    3. Prius c appeals more to younger demographic prospects than other Prius models.
    4. Prius c comes in vibrant colors :D
    5. Prius c fits into tight parking spaces.
I do not see why Toyota would discontinue the Prius c.

So I hope you have a source saying it's Not discontinued. It's almost Dec and no news on 2017 yet.

Should've get the Regular Prius instead, or trade-in now for the Prime?

I honestly don't think the first generation prime is worth it. The infotainment system is absolute nice person with controls flush and the responsiveness of the average single core android phone circa 2011. The EV range is so low you might as well bike the distance lol. The prime is what the base regular Prius should be IMHO.

The picture of the C at the Toyota web site has 2016 next to it, while all the other cars say 2017. Not a good sign unless it's just getting a very late introduction. It was initially debuted in the Spring of 2012. I haven't watched to see when each new model has arrived in subsequent years. If it's been in the Fall, then its very curious to not see the 2017 by now.

My bet is that it is a carry over year (2017 is identical to 2016) so they are clearing all the 2016 stock before introducing the 2017.
I am not expecting a 'new' c until the 2019 model year.

I bet you Toyota is keeping the 2017 Prius C a total C-cret!

Looks like Toyota has managed to design yet another very odd looking rear end for the C. The interior also looks strange. I get the feeling this is a concept car, although they talk about it as if its a done deal, ready to produce, but with no release date. What do you think? Concept?

I'm not really sure we can take any of that article at face value.

Forward looking and giving a set year for the next generation while not having a release date. Lots of nights and should have

Hopefully true but rather see a better mpg improvement, even a prime c would be nice and hopefully released with a new v but not holding my breath

There are no really facts, only speculations that the 2017 model would be carried over, with pretty much the same spec, price and with no facelift. Which means the article writer doesn't have more information than the general public.

I glanced at the sales figures in the US and it doesn't look like they are going to sell more than 25,000-30,000 C's this year. I don't think it's enough to sustain a budget car nameplate. Also looking at the dealers' inventory: Our local dealership has 2 C's (at very low prices), compared to 9 other Priuses. Clearly C is a niche within a niche.

I think Toyota maybe stretching it out with this 15-16 body style. Maybe the 17 will look the same just add something very minor to the interior. I think the 2018 may look like the Toyota aqua x-urban, almost same body style but with minor changes to the body.

I thought they were moving everything to the TNGA platform. I doubt they will keep the same body style if they do that.

To my knowledge it's minor changes to the body.

I bet they do move to the TNGA platform, in 2019.

That's the Prius C concept first shown at the 2011 Detroit Auto Show.

ETA: Pretty much everything in that article is garbage.

  18. Well........... for whatever dumb reason, Toyota reports a 2017 model that seems less fuel efficient than its predecessors.

Only 46 mpg (combined) when the previous gens got 50 mpg? And 48 city instead of 53 city?

Even if they are conforming to more stringent EPA testing, that's still a disappointing figure. They should be pushing higher, or, in the face of more stringent testing, maintaining 50 mpg.

Oh...... and they killed the sky blue model in the USA?

    Here's a press release dated January 11th:
2017 Toyota Prius c: sportier styling with added safety technology - Automotive World
"The Toyota Prius c, the smallest of the brand’s eight hybrid models, now comes standard with the Toyota Safety Sense C (TSS-C) driver-assist technologies on all model grades. The TSS-C system, which had been an option on two Prius c grades for 2016, includes Pre-Collision System, Lane Departure Assist, and Automatic High Beams."
