    Yours too?
I had a thread on that a while back
Front "leather" seat falling apart. Warranty issue? | PriusChat

I sincerely hope that the newer Softex is much more durable.

Been trying to shop around for the Prime in the socal area... lots of overzealous salesmen trying to charge anywhere from $2,000 to $3,000 over MSRP... predicting some kind of huge sustained demand for these cars.

Anyone have any advice in dealing with these types of salesmen?

Stand firm. Many are experts at this con game. Many dealers want to convince you that you will miss out if you don't buy now and on their terms. You have to be really prepared to walk out and really prepared to wait a few months.

Initial supply is trickling in but no one should have to pay above MSRP. In fact, the national cash offer is $500 off MSRP and the first to buy here on PriusChat (NorCal) also got an additional $100 off MRSP.

Call Dianne Whitmire at Carson Toyota if you must have your Prime soon. She is the only dealer authorized to post her deals here on PriusChat, in large part because of her integrity.

Thanks iplug for your advice to be firm, and way ahead of you on contacting Dianne as it is clear she very well respected here.

Some of these salesmen are absolutely out of their minds....

I'm not sure which dealerships you have been talking to. I've been calling dealerships all over Oregon and California (mostly LA area and Bay area) and NO one offered me a price above MSRP. Given that it is a brand new car in still short supply, I was actually surprised that I got offered $100 - $200 dollars off MSRP in addition to the $500 Cash-back deal. Also, that is with me buying from out-of-state. The only dealer that made out-of-state an issue was Toyota of Carson. So...you have plenty of choice with great dealers all around CA. In Oregon, the availability is quite reduced compared to CA. I ordered the one I wanted with a discount and it was great to deal with that bay area dealership..Good luck.

If you don't absolutely need a new car right now, just wait.
It is Nov 2016, and the Prius Prime is a brand new model for 2017. Inquiries about it is probably part of how dealers are justifying the price hike.
There isn't a number limit on HOV stickers, and I don't think California is going to eliminate the rebate.
Even better would be to wait for the second year. First year is more likely to have issues, there is already that recall over the parking brake.

If you need a car soon, look outside SoCal. @DianneWhitmire here is well regarded for fair deals. Just getting such quotes might make a local dealer reasonable.

We are VW TDI owner's with one of the cars going back to VW
So Toyota of Carson isn't interested in out-of-state business. Which Bay Area dealership did you work with. Sorry if I missed that in a previous post.

Thanks for reply and support guys. Unfortunately waiting isn't an option as I need to purchase a car in a near future. Still trying to wade thru gutter of salespeople trying to turn a quick buck...

Just got a quote on Costco pricing in Colorado. I won't post it but it will suffice to say, it's worth asking, and probably worth joining if you aren't yet a member.

Everyone keeps mentioning Dianne at Carson. I was dealing with her and I can definitely say she kept me informed and is polite however her "discount" is nothing to get excited about. And when I wanted to negotiate she became very closed and gave me a British goodbye.
I got an amazing deal quote from a South LA dealer thru the Costco program, it just wasn't the color I want.

As much as we are permitted to discuss pricing details here, this will be advantageous when negotiating with dealers.

When we got our Leaf, I printed up all of the recent sales prices from the main Leaf forum. Fortunately, I was not in a rush to buy/lease, showed the dealer the Leaf forum prices, told them the price I wanted, and ultimately said take-it-or-leave it. They said "sorry, we can't match that" and thought I was bluffing. But I got in my car to leave, starting backing out, then the dealer came running out to stop me, and we got very close to the deal I asked for.

I just got my first quote above MSRP, $2000 above. This one was from the Irvine region. Some of these people are crazy!

dianne is honest, above board and efficient. her pricing is always good, but no one can always be low woman on the totem pole. if bottom line is your bottom line, it always pays to shop around. just be careful of the over promising and under performing.

She isn't doing out-of-state deals it would appear. She has turned down two and failed to return a call from a third.

I contacted Dianne just yesterday about an out of state purchase and she was very helpful. While willing to sell me a Prime, she cautioned me that I would need to pay the 7 1/2% CA sales tax plus a "one trip" permit to allow me to drive it home prior to registering it there.

All good folks! Thankfully there are many Toyota dealers out there, so there is no need to get hung up on buying or not buying from one dealer that some people on here like. So far I can't say anything bad about most of the ones I dealt with in CA, and they were willing to give me even a bit of a discount. In other words, do your due diligence as you would when making a larger purchase and don't get hung up of buying from one specific one just because.... ;-)
