    wait until they are on the lots, so you can drive and compare. no problems with the 4 seats and raised hatch floor?

    Since you already have a Gen 4, I would say wait for next year's Prime. It's rumored to have a 5th seat.

    5th seat isn't a key factor for me, since most of time I only drive it alone. Hatch floor looks a little weird but still OK. The thing that bothers me is the spare tire. I got my front left tire blew up on the highway just 1 month after I bought the Gen 4. This really make me think my choice of trim Three was so right.

    I highly doubt it'll come around that soon. There never was a timeline given. We've just come up with speculations on our own.

    I need 5 seats. I have a baby that I like to have in the middle of the car. Also we take our in laws with us to dinner. When they make the Prime fit 5 I will buy one.

It is the most active German language forum on Toyota and Lexus Hybrid models, also providing discussions and information on other "clean" propulsion cars.<br /><br />In the mean time, I got precise information on the dimensions of the luggage compartment of the Prius Prime/PHV, compared to the 2 and 4 Gen Prius, and the soon to be available Ioniq Plug-in <b>(measures are given in this order)</b>. I consider the latter as the closest competitor of the Prius Prime/PHV, at least in Europe, where the Volt will not be made available as for now.<br /><br />Depth and width are comparable. Each Prius offers some more width in the rear part.<br />The heights <b>under the tonneau cover </b>show considerable differences. This is what Europeans consider as the real usable volume. We do not like it when others can see things we transport, nor do we want to expose them to direct sunlight.<br /><br /><b><font color="#0000ff">In Inch (cm): Prime/PHV: 9.45 (24); 2 Gen Prius: 13.78 (35); 4 Gen Prius: 16.93 (43); Ioniq Plug-in: 13 (33).</font></b><br /><br />The Prime/PHV booth is clearly truncated. The Ioniq Plug-in is not much larger overall, being somewhat smaller than the 2 Gen Prius. Its height, however, is more usable.     I'm not selling our 2014 BMW i3-REx but a Prius Prime in May 2016 would have been fair competition. Still, I am having fun with the 168 hp, rear-wheel drive ... learning all sorts of bad habits.

    my pip measures 25" of usable height where the backpack is, and 19" just before it starts to dip down at the tail light. the only thing i can't tell is if the double bubble window gives extra height.

    I've had many occasions where the cargo in the rear is touching the glass after I close the hatch in my PiP. Reducing that space even more is unacceptable.

    Although the Prime was never on my shopping list, if it was, I'd wait until the mid-cycle refresh to buy one for my purposes.

    The thing is, I already have my most excellent PiP, which makes the Prime pointess for me. My next car will be a full EV to replace my Acura TSX.

    We keep mentioning the mid-cycle refresh like it's going to be a major redesign. I doubt that will happen. I don't see a fifth seat or battery relocation in a refresh. That stuff would need a major design change I think. New headlights, more efficient battery cells, sure, but not anything major. Maybe more option packages, efficiency improvements based on real world data.

    In any case, it's never a good idea to have cargo touching the rear window unless it's pillows or something soft. One good bounce and you could be asking for trouble. That is my big concern with the cargo space and why we need to see it in person to make a decision. The comment about a gen 3 to 4 comparison is good. We all could benefit from that. Like maybe a common sized box in the same location in each car, and one on top of a 3inch prop in the gen 4 to approximate the prime floor. Pix with hatch closed and open.

    You would have to do two comparisons - one to a G4 with a spare tire and one to a G4 without a spare tire. Since my Prime-alternative is a Three+ATP, mine would be to a G4 with a spare tire since a Three has one. The height difference there is reported to be about 2.8 inches, which isn't much. The G4 without a spare will have a larger difference but a vertical wall between the cargo area and the rear seats when the rear seats are folded down.

    Ohhhh... got it. ;).

    You can always get it delivered. I heard a few people doing that to get a PIP to get a good deal or if it wasn't sold in their state.

    That would be nice, but those matrix LED headlights have my attention. Current headlight tech leaves a lot to be desired in deer country. And as I get even older, those oncoming headlights are way too glaring. Which brings up a point, why does everybody have those LED fog lights on all the time? The headlights are blinding enough!

    Should be 4", no? It's 3" from the floor to the height of the bumper. And a Gen 4 with spare tire has a 1" lip.

    Matrix LEDs won't arrive until DOT changes their regulations.
