Want a condition of the sale to make the backup beep a single beep. I heard it can be done but dealer never heard it can be changed. Looking at a 2016 prius 4. Can someone please help me and explain how it's done . Thank you. I'm at the dealer now
On my 2012, the dealer had a special checkoff list for customization. That was one of the items on the list, along with seatbelt buzzer, headlight auto-off time, door lock / unlock pattern, and maybe some others. Can you look in the manual for customizations?
Dealer can do it. Some charge for the labor, some don't. I hear buying the Carista unit can help you do this on your own.
Look in the Index of the Owner's Manual, for the line item 'Customizable Features'. On my Gen3, it lists which can be changed through the Display Audio system, which can be changed through the Navigation, and which can be changed by the dealer. For my 2012, the Reverse Beep is changed only by the dealer. (Or OBDII programmer such as ScanGauge, as I did on my 2010).
Yes mine definitely doesn't do it (turned off at dealer) and I turned off the seat belt beep with carista. The option to turn off the back up beeper is there and mine beeps once when putting in reverse. Its a pricey app but I would also turn on the power windows down via key fob as well.
No idea how, but it was a condition of my sale too, so they worked it out. Their technicians should either know or know how to find out. And I had them activate the open/close windows with the key FOB too.
I think if the 12 volt battery is disconnected the backup beep will revert to default continuous beep. Personally, I would save my conditions of sale for something else, manage to survive continuous beeping for the few seconds I'm in reverse. I actually appreciate the reminder.
Our dealer made the change to one beep when I brought our car in for the 10K service last week. They did it free of charge. You just have to ask...

I signed a paper with the purchase price but didn't make it through finance yet. They are working on it and need the repair the parking brake for the recall. Hopefully tomorrow this will be worked out and I'll go back on Tuesday
