I just received rear view camera and mirror from Amazon. Total came out to around $150 for the kit. Where would be the best place to wire 12V and ground wires for the mirror on 2011 Prius? I plan to install them this week and perhaps take some pictures along the way if anyone's interested. I plan to tap rear view camera wire to reverse light. Thanks!
Ideally it will work something like this. If your aftermarket camera doesn't mount this way, then you'll probably need to get creative.
I installed mine Friday night. I just had to drill a 5/16" hole on the plastic piece that snaps into the hatch. The hardest part of the whole install was removing that piece. If I was you I really wouldn't stress about drilling that hole, its super simple, plus if you did screw up that is probably like a $.50 piece from the dealer.
Thanks - how did you manage to run RCA cable through rubber piece? I found the hardest part was to run wire through it... Also, do I need to connect rear view mirror power cable to IGN or cigarette lighter on fuse box?
My installation was exactly like this video. At 2:00 minutes in it shows the business about stuffing through the rubber boot. I don't think you should need to be stuffing an RCA plug through the boot.
Thanks... where did you connect ground wire from rear view camera? Since rear hatch is made of plastic I don't think I can connect ground wire there.
