Just looked up Gen 3 Prius at FuelEconomy.gov and it's now listed as 50 City / 46 HWY / 48 Combined... No more bragging rights of driving an official "50 MPG" car Though I guess you can look at it another way, you might be beating EPA estimates way more than you initially thought; I now get on average 10% better (around 53MPG) combined MPG's than EPA estimates, instead of only 5% It also makes Gen 4 estimates look a whole lot better in comparison, the Prius Two ECO is a whopping 17% more efficient!
The 2nd Prius has that same rating but I get 57 MPGs both hwy and city. I stay in the 50 MPG while on the highway. I guess these numbers are based on big crawded major metropolitan cities, which I don't live in. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
Well my sig says 4.9L/100km or 48mpg. This is through cold winters and mountainous driving. Was it the rolling coefficient or something that changed for 2017?
My guess would be to better reflect today's driving habits; speed limits have gotten a lot higher since the last revision of 2008, everyone's going 70+ MPH on the highway now that they're legally allowed to, which would explain the drop in HWY miles to 46 MPG...which is what I would get on smooth highways going 70+ MPH.
As the EPA does from time to time, the methodology has changed slightly as more data becomes available. This affects the 2017 vehicles. In an effort to give an apples to apples comparison, the 2011-2016 model results have been updated to the new methodology. my '04 had 60 mpg on the sticker when i bought it, (i still have the sticker) and i regularly got 65. then the epa downgraded it, and my mpg's went through the floor.
