Did your friend mention hearing any "beeps" when he/she exited the car with the Power still on? (I have forgotten to turn my power off several times. I wish the car would HONK.)
If no headlights, no HVAC, no radio or anything was left on besides the car being in ready mode I'm just trying to figure what actually depletes the battery? Especially since the car is not moving pulling energy? I guess just the fact it's in ready mode takes a little energy... I am wondering. Parasitic drain I guess
I almost did it again the other morning. I had a dentist appointment before work and got there a little early so decided to wipe water spots off my car, and then ended up doing this for too long. I swiped the door handle to lock it and it beeped repeatedly. Took me a few swipes to figure out it was because the car was still on. First time I blame on having just gotten back from a business trip and forgetting how the car worked. This time, I do not know, just distracted by trying to fit in some cleaning when I should have just sat in the dentist waiting room.
I don't believe that my battery was depleted. The car's engine just started and stopped to recharge the battery as necessary. I would think that the electrical draw would have been minimal. I was mad when I discovered the car but now all seems good and I appreciate all the great feedback and humor. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
I'm REALLY weird, grape. I did it 3 times in one day! I think the car actually started beeping as soon as I opened the door... And yes, it also beeps and won't lock after closing the door. I'll do more "test runs" tomorrow. Now I'm curious. I wonder if the beeps can be made louder?
Not here - I can't turn my DRLs off. The handbook says that the DRLS come on when you release the Park Brake - but whoever wrote the handbook didn't try it out. They're on unless I turn Parking (Side/Position) Lamps on - and then the taillights come on too.
You can lock it using the manual key hidden in the "FOB". It still beeps a couple of times, and in my case keeps the DRLs on.
I haven't found a way - yet. Short of wire cutters - and that would probably come up with a display "MALFUNCTION - WIRE CUTTERS IN USE". The other thing is, the dash display continues, which could be noticeable at night - as would my CD.
That's funny! And yeah, you're right. The dash lights remain on. His friend must have jumped out really FAST... and didn't hear any beeps, and didn't notice the dash lights.
In addition to 11 days idling in READY, you might have a second record with this: as the lowest Prius MPG holder.
I love it; two possible records in one. While to refuel the mileage dropped to 6.3 mpg. LOL Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
