My friend drove my 2016 Prius put it in the garage and forgot to turn it off. It ran for 11 days. Is that a record? It seems perfectly fine and never ran out of fuel. It had one quarter of a tank left. And should I be concerned about any mechanical issues going forward? Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
welcome! probably and no, it won't hurt anything. that's just how it's meant to operate. that's what makes it so great for power outages.
Is it an attached garage? You'd want to air it out real good. The car too. Protracted idling might have some bad effects. Check your 12 volt battery's voltage? For giggles check the oil level. And just listen for differences, the next day or two.
Checked all that and all seems fine. I plan to let the dealer look it over just to make sure that all is good. Also and fortunately the garage was not attached. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
The headlights were off so no issue there. As for the mice, the poster is probably right; they have gone to their great reward. I am just relieved that my friend parked it with a full tank. I call my Prius 4 (2016) Touring The Wonder Car. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
With modern emission controls, I wouldn't bet on it. These controls have slashed (though not abolished) the rate of the old running-car-in-the-garage method of suicide.
Darn, can't do anything with these modern cars! The Safety Sense would probably stop you from driving into a tree too.
I've heard the opposite, that protracted idling is tough on the 12 volt, that they are taxed and not getting enough charging. Maybe just with regular cars, not sure. Hey, checking it doesn't hurt.
That would be regular cars with spinning generators and alternators, especially in the old days before decent regulators. With the Prius, that HV --> 12V inverter doesn't care about any RPMs, only that the car is in 'Ready'.
Well other than wasted fuel , it seems all is good. Car runs super and no issues detected. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
Do you have pre and post incident MPG stats?? Was the AC on at all? If so what setting? It is most definitely very reassuring to know that our cars can last 2 weeks on a tank of fuel idling if need be in say a natural disaster or emergency situation?
Interesting question; before the garage incident, it was 63.5 mpg and after 8.1 mpg. I had a full tank. I returned from hiking the Inka Trail in PerĂº . Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
Oh no accessories, no lights and no AC. My friend blamed the car. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
One of the reasons I leave my lights on AUTO - I'd see that they're on at night-time should I have left the car on.
It's reassuring it would stay on in an emergency, except if things are so bad you'd rather die from CO. Your last hope would be parking brake failure.
not much co with a prius, not a concern. it really is the cars fault, not your friends. an interesting experiment, leave your car on in your driveway or somewhere safe. if you don't have hvac or lights on, the engine doesn't run very much, especially outside of winter weather.
