I was experimenting and realised that the mount for my 360 camera can be applied to the exterior of the car (allegedly it doesn't fall off even at 100mph) - attached pictures show where it was mounted, and I drove up to 40mph, around corners and over speed bumps, and it stuck to the roof like glue! I made a video with my Samsung Gear 360 mounted to the roof of my Prius and edited the footage for YouTube. If you haven't viewed a 360 video before, when you open the video, do it on your phone when you're connected to wifi (and then move your phone around or swipe the screen to move 360 degrees) You can open it on a desktop/laptop too, but it's more fun to view with a phone. You'll have to open the actual video in Youtube to get 360, as opening it from the Prius Chat viewer doesn't seem to open it in 360 mode. Alas, a bit too much wind noise, hence I added the background music. All feedback welcome, especially where else on my Prius it might be fun to mount the 360 camera to capture moments as a I drive around London. I also thought it might be a good roof cam vs a regular dash cam, given its 360 coverage, but it overheats after 20 minutes of constant recording.
Geez it'd be good if these become standard equipment. Maybe people would drive a bit more responsibly. Thanks for sharing!
Similar, but not quite the same. The Rav4 appears to offer a 360 degree birds eye view, a better version than the feature I've had on Nissans in the past. The feature on the Rav4 appears to be a parking aid, rather than a general 360 'dash cam' type feature. More in this video. It's something they should have added to the Gen 4 Prius.
Oh dear. It appears they closed my Youtube account. I'll try and fix it and let you know when the video is online again.
