I'm sure it has a rev limiter, but that doesn't protect against an accidental downshift into 2nd gear at over 60 mph. This is the most typical way of blowing up the engine.

Or like a young chap I knew, had a relatively meagre Mazda - I think you called it the GLC in USA - worked out that he could spin the tyres by starting off in a pile of loose gravel and when it hit the bitumen "SCREECH" till it ran out of power and took off. He did it for a few weeks to impress his mates till the time it went "BBANGGGGG" instead - the gearbox/transaxle case split.

Bleh. I wish automakers would return to smooth lines again. All those aggressive angles aren't going to withstand the test of time.

Now that time has passed, I have to admit I think Toyota did a great job making the Gen 4 look great.
I like it, from the front, sides, all the way until you reach the accordion fireplace bellows scrunched back.
Except for that singular design element.....ignore-able....I think the Gen 4 is great.

Probably can out run the cockroach cops while they call for more back up crew while they all start running out of gas in a hot pursuit. Just crawl all day until they give up unless your tires get shot. You done

The Honda Si appears that everything is an afterthought. Pain in the butt to wax.

Type R is able to reach 200 MPH, not to shabby for a Civic! Who cares what it looks like with a top speed like this! :) BTW I like the looks!

Honda type R engines are truly a work of art. The screaming of a vtec engine is music to a petrolhead's ears..

Driving a Accord CL7R now (known as Acrua TSX over in the US)..

The previous FK2R costs about US$125,000 where i come from and you can only drive it for 10 years..

    Sounds more like Formula 1.

The 10th-gen Civic is really a styling mess in all trim levels, not just the Type R.

However, I do suspect that the aerodynamics actually do work - there's also a big front splitter, which will give it front downforce. And, even though it's FWD, aerodynamics on both ends of the car actually do help - downforce improves cornering grip at speed, and the back end of the car needs to have grip too, even if it's not as heavily loaded due to the lack of drive forces.

Note that plenty of FWD cars in the various touring car racing series have big rear wings, too - that's because they need them. Edit: And their goal isn't fuel efficiency, it's minimum laptime. Even though the high drag reduces their top speed, being able to take the corners faster helps the laptime.

Can't be that bad since it has no problem keeping up with the new M3 and some serous sports cars around the track. The spoilers might look silly but they are 100% functional. The Gen4 is considered ugly but also functional in aerodynamics. That TypeR Civic is very impressive around a racetrack.

That is not where most automobile users spend their driving time.

However, the Civic Type R is intended to be capable of that - sure, nobody's going to track it every day, but a lot of performance cars are meant to be usable on the street in your daily driving, but also intended for high performance driving.

Bashing it because it's optimized for high performance driving is misguided - that's the entire reason it exists. If it weren't optimized for high performance driving, it would be the regular Civic, which also exists.

I used to track a modified 2007 Si. It was very capable - no doubt. If you've ever driven a civic near its limits, you'd understand my comment on the understeer. Just watch some of the videos of drivers negotiating one around a track.

I wasn't knocking its capability, just commenting on the driving characteristics.

I really find the interior of the gen 4 prius a downgrade from the gen 3. And why did they delete the second glovebox?

I believe the consensus is that the second glovebox was deleted for safety reasons, to allow a better deployment path for the airbag.

Really? I assumed it was a design thing (low cowl = lower dashboard = less space for a glovebox)

I'm pretty sure somewhere in this Interior walk-through Danny did with US Toyota rep he says something to that effect, that the upper glove box would disturb the sculptured line, something like that. But danged if it I can find it. Anyway:
