Since I bought this Prius, 2010, used, with 90K on it at the time, now 145K, when slowing down to come to a stop it sounds like a jet plane landing. Not a roar, more like a high pitch whine. Any ideas? I had a 2008 that did not make any noise when slowing down. Thank you
I've noticed the same. My 2005 made less strange noises overall. The 2010+ actually have a sound maker at very low speeds for parking lots and such. It's supposed to let people hear our hybrid cars since mostly the ICE is off at low speeds. But still that being said even at higher speeds, when i step on the breaks it still seems to make more odd nosies. Honestly I don't mind them though, I actually enjoy it! Some members here have unplugged the low speed noise makers
Yeah, thats all it is. I wanted to try and record it and make it louder and use it as a ring tone.........LoL
our hycam has a little whine when braking, but i don't notice it much in the prius. i always thought it was the regeneration in the tranny or inverter.
I always thought this too. It's a different sound than the pedestrian warning, more high pitched. I think it's something to do with the regenerative brakes, maybe the motor turning?
I've been told in the past it is in fact the inverter. It makes sense because it sounds different then the previous generation, as the previous generation used a different inverter
I like that Star Wars sound. I hear it in my Gen4. It's not very loud, or annoying. I also hear some kind of "buzzing" sound when I first get in the car. And also after slowing down and coming to a stop.
I believe so as in OP he states he hears it when slowing to a stop. Car is quieter and less road noise. But I never had a gen2, so not sure for comparison. From what is described, it sounds normal to me. But I have been accused of selective hearing in the past.
with certainty, is a reaccion of the built in Inverter while at regenerative charging stage. nty, is a reaccion of the built in Inverteer
