Really, in traffic like that I'm in the high 60's Again, what's the op's idea of hypermiling? Let me tell you mine In a gen2, at 40-42 mph if you feather the throttle and watch the screen you can make the display, display no energy movement...hypermiling.
I get around 60 MPG with both interstate and city in my 09 Prius and have the AC on. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
There are many hypermiling choices with a wide range of results. It isn't all-or-nothing. Use just as much as fits your situation, and don't feel guilty about not going all-out. And nearly all drivers should stop every 2-3 hours for safety reasons. Driver fatigue is a major contributor to fatal crashes
So true! Speeder: "Officer, I was just keeping up with the flow of traffic!!"... Officer: "Yeah at 90 mph and you are the unlucky one I caught today".... LoL!
I MUST be in a fantasy world according to the OP. I got 65-100 mpg on a 2000 Honda Insight rated at 55 mpg. Now I'm doing 55-65 mpg on a Gen II Prius rated at 45 mpg. I reject the reality of the OP and recommend he works on his techniques - I'm still learning. And maybe do some lead foot rehab.
Yes indeed, Pulse, Coast, Glide. Drove 41 miles from city to interstate and back to city. I live in the 2nd largest city in Iowa. XT1058 using PriusChat mobile app
I have owned my 2015 for over a year now. The first 6 months, my mileage was under 44mpg. I was forcing the ECV mode, I was hyper-mile-ing. I was driving slow. I was overfilling my tank. Nothing worked. For the last 6 months, I have just drove the car like my Scion. Now I get 48-49mpg. This has been my experience. The computer has out "thunked" me.
Iowa Cities Population 1 Des Moines 203,433 2 Cedar Rapids 126,326 3 Davenport 99,685 LOL! In Chicago, a city of 3.5 million people and a metro area of 10 million, we have suburbs that are larger than Cedar Rapids. You don't know city driving!
Not even close. It's about 130k. Des Monies the largest city in Iowa 200k but we are getting a lot of migration from Chicago in record numbers with in the past 10 year's. I managed to consistently stay in the 50 MPG range for the past two weeks in a grid lock bumper to bumper backed up several miles trying to get on I-380 due to our flood that we had with all the main roads in the inner-city blocked. LOLROF! "Inner city Cedar Rapids" and "Grid lock". Must have cost you 5 or 10 minutes! You realize real city traffic ALWAYS takes an extra 45-90 minutes (double that on bad days) doncha?!? NOBODY is getting 60mpg in the city.
Dude I was in traffic for two hours in a grid lock backed up for miles plus the interstate was backed up as we were crawling on the interstate. All the City ramps was closed and all the main roads in the city was closed. Not to mention all the traffic lights we had to crawl through plus semis making it worst slowing down traffic. After all that, I still maintained 50 MPG. I would never live in a big city as it's not worth driving as you are better off walking or taking public transportation if all you do is crawl for hours. It takes me normally about 30 minutes to get to work from my house. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
LOL! That happens how often exactly? Once every hundred year flood? Here's what real stop and go traffic is really: a 20 minute trip to the airport must be allowed 2 hours during rush hour. EVERY DAY. Add an extra hour (or more) for rain, snow, parades, construction, accidents and floods. That is city traffic. Did you get 60 MPG during your "horrible" flood traffic?
Do you read? I said I managed to maintain 50 MPG. I get around 58-60 MPG normally. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
I'm not sure I understand your angle here. Are you bragging about being dumb enough to live in an area where 20 miles takes you 2 hours?
I separate the concepts of "fuel efficient driving" and "hypermiling"; the latter being taking things to extremes.
That's why I dont live in those big high cost metropolitan cities like NY, Chicago, LA.. You are better off taking public transportation or walking. Where I live it, I can make use of my MPGs. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
I was trying to post enough of your text to put that sentence in context. That's the only way I could think of to highlight it, make it bold.
