Prius causes Downtempo

    If you want both Scandinavian and trip-hop, you can try Nils Petter Molvaer (Norwegian trumpet electronica). DJ Krush (Japan) did a good trumpet electronica album with Toshinori Kondo too, called Ki-oku.
    Cinematic Orchestra is definitely great, also Quantic, Gotan Project, Bonobo, Amon Tobin, Funki Porcini, and The Herbaliser are some of my favorites. You can get a good sampling on some of the Ninja Tune label's compilation albums (Flexistentialism, Funkungfusion, Xen Cuts).

    Great. Been listening to DJ Krush this weekend. Also stumbled onto a good find: an album called Rhythym/Pleasure by Rip Rowan, sort of passion-sounding downtempo, will have to play it for Mrs. BigDaddy...

    Are you familiar with Michael Schrieve? Puts out some great music, I don't know what genre it would fall into but it sounds to me like you would really like it! Any other Michael Schrieve fans out there? It is especially good music for playing chess.

    You might like "Rise" by Anoushka Shankar. I'm listening to now, not quite downtempo, but good car music.

    Over at amazon, one reviewer says "play in on long trips in your car; you'll feel like you're flying on music"

    I've mostly been listening to Sirius Spa 73, which is a New Age channel, as it seems to blend well with the "Zen" experience of driving the car, and keeping my blood pressure down. :)

    A newly-released, digitally-remastered The Hawk Relaxes by Coleman Hawkins turned out to be the ultimate "drive relaxed" album for me. Maybe my age is a factor, but there's just nothing like the great jazz of the '50s and early '60s.

    The Hawk Relaxes was originally released in 1961.

    I love this thread! Thanks to everyone for the continued suggestions!

    I like the Murcof. It makes me want to paint my body silver, don some antennae, turn it up full volume, roll down the windows and drive around town. If only my prius could fly!

    In addition to all the other great suggestions, I would suggest the Don't Look Now album by Way Out West. And Gave Up by The Postal Service. Both bands have many trip hop elements. I particularly like "Just Like Man" on the Way Out West album and "The District Sleeps Alone Tonight" on The Postal Service.

    Check out this interface/radio station: http://www.musicovery.com/

    There is no downtempo station per se, but if you select the ambience tab, then slide the circle all the way to calm and a little to the right to Positive, then you'll pick up things like Massive Attack and Kruder & Dorfmeister.

    Wish I had this interface on my MFD....
